The Private Equity Summer Analyst Experience

Our internship experience seeks to enrich your knowledge of our businesses and the industry at large. You will be challenged to explore, grow, and cultivate the skills necessary to succeed and make your way. Successful candidates have the opportunity to spend the program duration of 10 weeks in either the Ares Special Opportunities or Corporate Opportunities group. Resumes will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis, and candidates should only apply to either the Corporate Opportunities or Special Opportunities group, not both.



Private Equity Summer Analyst Roles & Responsibilities:

The Corporate Opportunities team seeks to invest in high quality, growth-oriented, companies in North America and Europe. We seek to invest in companies with strong existing management teams where our capital can accelerate and maximize growth over the lifecycle of the investment. We add value to our management partnerships by capitalizing the company for growth at entry; utilizing our network to enhance resources available to fully exploit a company’s potential; leveraging our experience in capital markets activities; implementing best practices; and assisting with strategic value-add initiatives, such as acquisitions. 

Summer Analysts on the Corporate Opportunities Fund team will work with teams of private equity investment professionals on the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of investments across multiple industries and platforms, including: leveraged buyouts, growth equity, distressed credit, and rescue capital. 

Responsibilities will include:
  • Understanding the due diligence process
  • Structuring, underwriting, and closing equity and debt investments across diverse industries
  • Building and updating integrated financial models
  • Analyzing company and industry research
  • Gaining exposure to investment recommendations and preparing investment committee memos
  • Evaluating relative value and how to “price” the risk vs. reward of an investment opportunity



Who We Are Looking For

This program is open to undergraduate students who are intellectual, demonstrate professional drive and have a record of excellence in prior vocations. In addition to interest in financial markets and investments, strong analytical skills and poise in a fast-paced team environment, successful candidates for this role will have:

  • A passion for contributing to and operating within a collaborative corporate culture
  • Knowledge of finance and accounting; previous experience in these areas a plus but not required
  • General aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Novice to intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to multi-task
  • Initiative and a strong entrepreneurial mindset
  • Critical thinking ability with the capacity to research solutions and be a problem solver

Additionally:
  • Are currently enrolled as an undergraduate student, ideally majoring in Finance or Economics
  • Have an anticipated graduation date between December 2024 and August 2025
  • Have a track record of academic excellence and participation in campus activities

Location: Los Angeles, CA
Duration: 10 weeks
Compensation: Paid Internship - the total base salary (subject to change) is expected to be $110,000 (prorated over 10 weeks).
