Women's Health Educator - Bilingual

Must be bilingual in English and Spanish

Primary Purpose: Responsible for the assessment of women's health education needs, presentation of appropriate educational materials, and evaluation of program activities to ensure a quality women's health education program.
 
Minimum Specifications
Education:
Must have a minimum of Associate's degree. Experience:
Must have (2) years of experience in health education, community outreach programs.
 
Equivalent Education and/or Experience:
If in possession of a Bachelors Degree in Social Services, Public Health, Health Education or Community Health Education, experience requirement may be waived.
 
Required Tests for Placement
Parkland approved Qualified Bilingual Test prior to employment.
 
Skills or Special Abilities:
Must be bilingual in both English and Spanish.
Must successfully complete and pass Parkland Health approved Qualified Bilingual Test.
Must be able to successfully pass the WISH Women's Health Education Curriculum course and exam during the first six months of employment.
Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.
Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of training methods and techniques, including the group facilitation process.
Must be able to demonstrate excellent writing, communication skills, and public speaking skills.
Must demonstrate knowledge and skill in working with a diverse population.
Must be organized, detail oriented and able to work independently.
Must demonstrate patient centered/patient valued behaviors.
 
Responsibilities:
1. Assists with the evaluation of patient educational needs. Presents information and materials to educate target group to promote health awareness and good health practices.
2. Reviews medical records, schedules appointments and enters charges, performing other related clinical duties as necessary.
3. Assesses patient's level of understanding and evaluates need for further instruction. Documents translation and education activities as indicated.
4. Assists with health education events by providing educational training and public speaking on women's health topics to promote public awareness and good health practices.
5. Investigates, communicates and mediates medical and other patient concerns to proper persons. Provides emotional support to clients as indicated.
6. Maintains a positive working relationship with management, vendors, community agencies, schools, other health educators and healthcare personnel to ensure open communication within the health community.
7. Evaluates and updates literature and materials periodically to ensure that current information is disseminated to patients and staff.
8. Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field of medicine and healthcare for the assigned patient population by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and maintaining licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
9. Identifies ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction. Makes recommendations to supervisor, implements, and monitors results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
10. Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines, that impact medicine and healthcare. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.
