Join the field of Correctional Nursing at the South Dakota Women's Prison! We have a FULL-TIME positions that works three 12 hour shifts per week. 
Correctional Health nurses work for the SD Department of Corrections in a secure clinic environment and provide health care to an underserved population. Nurses are involved in diverse cares such as:
  • Emergencies
  • Acute Care/Infirmary Care
  • Long Term Care
  • Special Populations
  • Behavioral Health
  • Telemedicine
All candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and climb stairs.

Licenses and Certifications:
Must be licensed or be eligible to licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in South Dakota.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • strong nursing assessment skill, critical thinking skills, initiative, team oriented, and communication skills.
Knowledge of:
  • Department of Corrections and Health policies and procedures;
  • effective scheduling techniques;
  • NCCHC guidelines;
  • Clinical procedures. 
Ability to:
  • keep records and charts;
  • follow oral and written instructions;
  • communicate information clearly and concisely;
  • make reports on observations;
  • instruct or train nursing and patient care staff;
  • establish and maintain effective relationships with patients and staff.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
