Job Purpose
Acts with oversight, development, implementation, budget, and evaluation of existing and new leadership development programs, as needed and as directed. Supports the Center’s mission by providing programs that create opportunities for student involvement and learning through individual and group leadership activities. As needed, stands in for the Director to represent and speak for Student Leadership in various environments across campus and within the external Charleston community.
Minimum Requirements
Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Personnel, or Leadership required. Experience working with student programs in a higher education environment is preferred. Requires experience in public speaking and with using computer desktop publishing software and MS Office. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of leadership topics; principles, policies & practices of small and large event planning; relevant laws, regulations, policies & organizational functions. Ability to effectively prioritize, plan, and organize work and tasks to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to train others as needed. Ability to be courteous and deal effectively with all personnel and the public. Knowledge of FERPA student privacy regulations necessary. Experience with website development or the ability to learn website development is necessary.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Requires some nights and weekends work.

1. Develops and solely oversees production of all yearly series of leadership development events/workshops for the Leadership CofC program for juniors & seniors. Schedules and organizes each event (at least 9 per academic year) to ensure all logistics are met. Meets with various community leaders to solicit their participation in the Leadership CofC series. Has authority to delegate some of those duties to other staff, as needed. Reviews and recommends applicants for the program by coordinating a recruitment and interview process. Assesses program outcomes and makes recommendations on modifications and enhancements. Oversight with decision-making responsibility for the program budget allocation ($20,000+ per year) and ensures fiscal discipline, compliance with College and State regulations and accurate record keeping.

2. Recruits, facilitates and advises the participants in the Leadership Certificate Program. Responsible for ongoing individual meetings with participants to guide personal reflection in co-curricular and extra-curricular learning opportunities for the duration of students participation the program. Guides students through the development of a personal capstone artifact and presentation.

3. Supervision of the Assistant Director for Student Leadership and Fraternity/Sorority Life. Providing regular and constructive feedback, evaluation and professional direction.

4. Coordinates annual Fall Leadership Conference, including site logistics, speaker selection, student registration and program assessment. Utilizes student board to assist in program development and implementation.

5. Coordinates annual SAIL (Student Activity, Involvement and Leadership) Award program. Oversees event logistics, awards nomination and selection process and collaboration with other key stakeholders. Serves as the main point of contact for division-wide committee.

6. Manages schedule and all requests for outside departmental and student presentations, seminars, workshops, self-assessment instruments and/or retreats on a variety of leadership topics as needed. Participates in collaborative programs, initiatives and projects that are implemented with other departments or other student leadership programs/events as needed. Serves on various committees, representing student leadership and Executive Director, as needed.
