Assistant Director, Student Programs

Title: Assistant Director, Student Programs

Department: Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership (CWEL)

Reports to: Executive Director, CWEL

Job Summary:

The Assistant Director, Student Programs will design, implement, promote, and evaluate co-curricular programs and events that fulfill the Center for Women’s Entrepreneurial Leadership's (CWEL) strategic objective to deliver high-impact, mission-aligned learning experiences. This role serves the undergraduate, graduate, campus, and broader Babson community audiences; promotes gender and DE&I equity as a growth strategy for individuals, organizations, and society as a whole, and empowers people of all identities to reach their full potential and to develop their leading edge as inclusive entrepreneurial leaders, in any role or industry path they seek. The Assistant Director will also teach/facilitate a variety of CWEL programming including mentorship programs and courses, venture accelerators, workshops, speaker series, networking events, cross-campus collaborations, and student advising.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates and implements program strategy and communicates the value proposition aimed at increasing student and community knowledge of, and access to, CWEL programs, networks, and resources.
  • Designs, teaches, and facilitates training and curricular/co-curricular learning programs to increase gender, DE&I, and intercultural competencies including but not limited to inter/intra-group dialogue, restorative practices, and educational leadership trainings (i.e. CWEL Mentorship program and courses, Women’s Leadership Academy high school program, professional/leadership development and gender/inclusion acumen seminars and workshops, customized CWEL gender and DE&I sessions).
  • Evaluates program performance using a variety of assessment and techniques. As a result of this evaluation, develops, implements, and revises in-person and online program curricula, and recommends readings and course content in accordance with program standards and institutional needs. Maintains and submits accurate program records according to established deadlines to the Associate Director.
  • Uses a design thinking approach to understand the Babson customer in the planning, promotion, execution, and evaluation of CWEL events, programs, and community building.
  • Identifies and forms collaborative partnerships to expand and sustain gender and DE&I education for the CWEL portfolio.
  • Implements strategic education and outreach with university partners and community stakeholders as appropriate. Consults with the Executive Director and other senior members of the CWEL team to ensure education and outreach are in alignment with CWEL goals, mission, and values.
  • Assesses and addresses campus climate improvement needs and develops related in-person and online instructional modules, facilitator trainings, and other curricula in collaboration with the Associate Director.
  • Manages the logistics and execution of both in-person and virtual events and programming from initial conception to post-event evaluation; including speaker evaluation and recruitment; developing program content, printed, and digital materials; collecting online registrations; preparing event briefings; tracking program attendance; coordinating venues, catering, venders, and audio/visual technology; serving on-site needs of guests and speakers; and post-event data management, surveys, and documentation for program evaluation.
  • Collaborates with members of the CWEL team to create and distribute program-related internal marketing and outreach materials, including writing marketing text; designing promotional materials; coordinating and archiving graphics, photography, and videography; creating internal e-newsletters (Constant Contact); planning and creating social media content (LinkedIn, Instagram); creating and maintaining website updates related to campus programs.
  • Develops and maintains CWEL student event calendars and coordinates on-going internal communication with colleagues and key campus stakeholders. 
  • Serves as Lead CWEL student advisor, providing guidance, coaching, and support to both individuals and student-led organizations.
  • Recruits, direct, manages and develops the CWEL Student Executive Board, student volunteers, and peer mentorship program, including recruitment, application processes, training, and development.
  • Formulate strategic plan to engage students from Miami, Boston, and Wellesley campuses.
  • Fosters learning environments of inclusion, belonging, and support through targeted outreach and establishing avenues for student networking, collaboration, and community-building activities.
  • Fosters partnerships with students, organizations, faculty, and administration across the Babson community (including but not limited to, the Centers & Institutes, Admissions, Office of Diversity & Inclusion; Office of Multicultural and Identity Programs, Centers for Career Development, Advancement, Campus Life, and all academic divisions) to facilitate recruiting, outreach, and coordination of collaborative programming.
  • Serves as a CWEL representative at campus speaking engagements and meetings as assigned.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Must have 4-6 years of experience in student affairs, program management, events management, leadership/career development, or DE&I initiatives; 2-4 years in program design and development, curriculum design, training and/or teaching, experience in academia, and experience as an entrepreneur or as an entrepreneurship educator, researcher or practitioner.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and understanding of social constructions of gender and implications for women’s entrepreneurship ecosystem.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, deliver, and evaluate co-curricular education programs.
  • Passion for advancing and supporting high-potential student leaders and entrepreneurs with an understanding of the social constructions of gender, intersections of identity, and implications for education and business communities. 
  • Ability to stay abreast of current trends in women’s entrepreneurship; venture acceleration; diversity, equity, inclusion, & belonging; leadership, and gender in both corporate and start-up business environments.
  • Must have outstanding organization & project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time efficiently.
  • Must have creative problem-solving skills and the ability to innovate.
  • Must have strong marketing and customer service skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and verbal formats including high visibility situations such as keynote speaking, media relations, and panel moderation.
  • Ability to establish creditability and confidence with stakeholders.
  • Must have exceptional collaboration and interpersonal skills, and the ability to be effective engaging with all levels within the college and the business ecosystem.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs: Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants.
  • Must be a team player, with the confidence to take the lead and guide colleagues from across the campus when necessary.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in working with internal constituents such as diverse student body, faculty, and staff, and external constituents such as strategic partners, stakeholder groups and volunteers.
  • Envisions and proposes new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; takes thoughtful risks; and accepts new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Anticipates and embraces change; demonstrates willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.

Working Conditions:

  • Working hours may vary. Requires some nights/weekends.
  • Flexibility to work both in-person on the Wellesley campus and remotely.
  • All Babson College faculty and staff authorized to work on campus must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any appropriate boosters.
