$68,259.34 - $108,940.92 Annually

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Staff Engineer in the Aviation - Capital Projects Development Division.

The Staff Engineer includes professional and administrative work assisting in the management of Airport projects for the County. These projects will include landside, airfield and building projects. In addition, the Staff Engineer supports the Construction Project Managers and Engineers in their management and engineering activities. 
 
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in an engineering field related to the area of assignment.
 
Experience working with pavement, utilities and building projects in Cities, Counties and Airports is preferred.
Special Certifications and Licenses
Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification may be required based on area of assignment.
Preferences
Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Engineering field closely related to area of assignment.
Florida Professional Engineer License (PE)
PMI Project Management Professional (PMP)
AAAE Certified Member (C.M.)
FDOT Certifications (asphalt, concrete, MOT, etc)
1+ years of experience in Project Management, Budget Development, Implementation and Monitoring
1+ years of experience computer-aided design and drafting (CADD); Microsoft Project, Primavera, Project Management Software
1+ years of experience in preparing and reviewing specifications and drawings to ensure compliance with design, licensing, and regulatory standards
1+ years of experience in aviation design, construction
 Additional Information:
All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and 
criminal background check, including fingerprinting and all other information as required by the Federal Aviation Administration. * Post-offer physical examination including drug testing. * Ability to maintain authorization to drive a County vehicle. * Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Badge. * The Aviation Department operates under a Drug-Free Workplace Policy in compliance with the provisions of the Federal Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988. 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
The Staff Engineer position will be responsible for supporting the Construction Project Managers and Engineers in the performance of a wide range of tasks including, but not limiting to the following: 
- Provides engineering support in the design and review of a wide variety of projects.
- Collects and processes engineering related data; prepares project scope of work, schedule, cost estimates and list of deliverables.
- Prepares technical review comments and technical reports, as needed, with project specific information, license conditions, engineering data and calculation summaries.
- Reviews engineering construction certifications, construction permits and design plans for compliance with FAA requirements, County and State Codes.
- Establishes and manages effective internal and external communication and coordination with other divisions, consultants, contractors and other agencies. 
- Performs site inspections, as needed, for construction compliance, reviews inspection reports and identifies deficiencies.
- Manages the Tenants Improvement Projects (TIPs) and BCAD Improvement Projects (BIPs). Coordinates, as necessary, with BIPs and TIPs stakeholders.
- Supports Project Managers during negotiations with contractors and consultants and during the preparation of Work Orders, Purchase Orders, Change Orders, Notice to Proceeds, Close-outs and other administrative work as needed.
- Supports the development of the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and the preparation of the Capital Budget. 
- Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences
- Performs related work as assigned.
