School Social Worker

PART-TIME SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER JOB POSITION
 
I’RAISE Girls & Boys International Corporation is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization. We provide free resources, programs, and services to vulnerable children and families in multiple states including New York City. Our holistic approach ranges from providing tutoring, mentoring, coaching, career and college preparation, virtual performing arts classes, afterschool service, in-person counseling and therapy sessions, and much more. 

As we are working on expanding ourselves within New York City, we are also looking for dedicated, committed, and enthusiastic part-time school social workers to work side by side with our Clinical Consultants/Supervisor(s), School Director, and school staff who travel to our multiple DOE partnered schools and provide in-person and virtual services.  

Work Location: Traveling to two to three of our partnered DOE Schools in New York City 
Direct Supervisor: School Director 
Hourly pay range: $30 to $33

Essential functions:
  • Provide one-on-one and group counseling to assigned youth using a variety of evidence-based interventions and culturally sensitive therapeutic approaches
  • Develop treatment plans for students in support of students' social, emotional, and behavioral goals
  • Complete psychosocial assessments to evaluate the mental, social, and functional capacity of students
  • Assesses a student in terms of personal and family history, social-economic and cultural differences.
  • Provide crisis intervention for students as needed
  • Offer mentoring and suggestions for Teachers and other school personnel
  • Communicate and collaborate with school officials including principals, guidance counselors, and school psychologists
  • Communicate with clients' parents and provide regular updates regarding their child's progress
  • Assist with parent-focused and teacher-focused workshops as needed
  • Participate in the evaluation, classification and placement of all pupils with special needs.
  • Maintain an ongoing relationship with families for the purpose of- sharing information regarding educational planning and programming for the student; assisting the family in utilizing appropriate community resources; and assisting the family and/or students to facilitate social adjustment.
  • Consult with administration and staff regarding social adjustment factors of students in schools, at home and in the community.
  • May counsel groups of students and/or parents regarding social adjustment problems.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate written reports and records.
  • Maintain appropriate case records and act as case manager for designated students.
  • Assist in coordinating, developing, monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of Individualized Education Plans.
  • Observe pupils in classrooms and/or the playground, as appropriate.
  • Supervise Social Work Interns (SIFI certified).
  • Other duties, projects, and responsibilities assigned any time

Skills and Requirements:
  • LMSW License (Licensed Master Social Worker) required
  • SIFI Certification preferred to be able to supervise MSW school social work interns 
OR 
  • 3 + years of post-grad school social work experience and working with youth and willing to receive SIFI certification 

Physical and or mental requirement: Possess social perceptiveness. Ability to understand the importance of discretion and confidentiality. Bending, crawling, stooping, standing, vision, lifting, and walking. Must be able to remain in a stationary position during shift, move throughout the building to access files, must be able to complete tasks in a noisy environment, must be able to adhere to process protocol, must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner. Learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow, ability to communicate with visitors/stakeholders, ability to complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity quota. Able to travel within New York City.

Technology requirement: Comfortable communicating via email and phone, proficient in Microsoft-suite and Google Workspace (G-suite). This job requires the use of a personal laptop, Ipad or computer, and phone and notebooks for case intakes and for tracking caseloads.
