Environmental, Health & Safety Intern - 2023 Summer Program
The Role
As we continue to grow as QuidelOrtho, we are seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety Intern or the 2023 Summer Program who will collaborate with site and regional EHS professionals to gain hands on experience managing safety and environmental regulatory compliance in a manufacturing setting as well as managing projects which will help streamline EHS processes. This position is based in Raritan, NJ.
The Responsibilities
- Assist with completion of EHS regulatory reports
- Manage the completion of tasks associated with regulatory requirements such as the annual confined space audit, lockout/tagout audit, etc.
- Drive improvement opportunity projects associated with the site’s waste procedures, electrical safety program, lockout/tagout program, contractor safety program, etc.
- Develop robust communications to help drive a proactive employee culture of safety
- Develop training content and further convert live training into the company’s learning management system (LMS)
- Assist with accident/incident follow up and root cause investigations
The Job Deliverables
- Completion of assigned tasks and projects
- The intern will present a poster and PowerPoint presentation on his/her work to a cross-functional group.
The Individual
Required:
- Undergraduate or Graduate student in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or other related fields.
- Minimum GPA: 3.0
- Qualified candidates must be currently a sophomore or above to be consider and must be enrolled in school at the time of the internship program.
- Excellent influencing, planning, organizational and time management skills as well as excellent written and verbal communication skills, such as public speaking.
- Must be a team player, be able to work independently, and be process oriented.
- This position requires periods of standing, production floor/facility mobility (ex: bending, climbing ladders, etc.), and the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
- Interns should be prepared to fully commit to the start and end dates of on or about May 22 through August 18, 2023.
- Interns are expected to provide their own housing, travel, and any other requirements necessary for their participation in this program.
Preferred:
- Some knowledge of OSHA (Occupational Health & Safety), EPA, and state regulations and on a local, state and federal level
- Strong Excel skills
The pay range for the Internship Program is between $16/hour to $30/hour. The Pay rate will be determined by the year in school, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the candidate. Benefits are not included for this position.
