Assistant Dive Coach (Seasonal)

The City of Leawood, Kansas will be accepting applications for Assistant Dive Coach (Seasonal) until March 31, 2023. 

Summary/Objective
The Assistant Dive Coach assists in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the recreational dive team program and coordinate meets and events in conjunction with the Leawood Lighting Parent Board and City Staff. This position is responsible for assisting in the coordination of swim practices and meets along with the safety of the participants.
 
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Responsible for assisting the Head Dive Coach in the planning, preparing and implementing well diversified and structured dive practices and meets for patrons. Duties include but not limited to ensuring participants are informed of important information, coordinating transportation to meets and events and ensuring the safety of the patrons. 
  • Assists the Dive Coach with day-to-day activities for the dive team. 
  • Assists the Swim Lesson Coordinator in conducting dive lessons for patrons ranging in age from one to fourteen years of age. Ensures the safety of the patrons during swim lessons. 
  • May be required to represent the City and the Dive team at meetings and special functions.
  • Wears approved attire at all times.
  • Reports to scheduled work shifts on time. 
  • Attends required meeting and training sessions.
  • Assists with after hour rentals, events and programs occurring at the pool facility including the Wave. 
  • May be required to make decisions regarding inclement weather in regards to meets and practices, which may warrant cancelling participation or seeking shelter.
  • Employee may be asked by the supervisor or acting supervisor to perform other duties that are not listed but are essential to the job. 

Minimum Qualifications / Requirements
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with the public.
  • Ability to use safe work practices while on the job.
  • Ability to protect and maintain confidentiality of information. 
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines with effective results.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language with proper spelling and grammar to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 
  • Ability to make decisions in the best interest of both the patron and the city. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain steady communication. 
  • Ability to make rational decisions efficiently during variable and sometime stressful conditions, including the ability to calmly interact with the public and other City personnel. 
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, changes and directives effectively. 
  • Standard office procedures, systems, and practices including the use of a computer and computer software. 
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must have adequate environmental tolerance, including the ability to work in high temperatures and confining work spaces.
 
Education, Training, and Certification Requirements
  • Must be 17 years of age and have a minimum of two (2) years of related experience. 
  • Equivalent requirement is 18 years of age and one (1) year experience. 
  • One (1) year of college or equivalent experience preferred. 
  • Competitive diving experience required. 
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.
