Swim Lesson Coordinator (Seasonal)

The City of Leawood, Kansas will be accepting applications for Swim Lesson Coordinator (Seasonal) until March 30, 2023. 

Summary/Objective
The Swim Lesson Coordinator oversees and coordinates all aspects of the swim and dive lesson program. This position is responsible for the coordination of instructors and lesson plans for all lessons conducted at the aquatic center. 
 
Essential Functions / Responsibilities
  • Responsible for overseeing and coordinating the swim and dive lesson program. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing swim and dive lesson rosters for swim instructors, scheduling swim instructors for each session, cancelling classes if necessary, and communicating with participants on class particulars. 
  • Assists the Outdoor Recreation Supervisor in the coordination of swim lesson enrollment. 
  • Supervises and evaluates all swim instructors including but not limited to preparing work schedules and time sheets.
  • Monitors all swim and dive lesson classes on a daily basis for accuracy and consistency.
  • Assists with after hour rentals, events and programs occurring at the pool facility including the Wave. 
  • May assist at the front desk and concessions stands when needed. 
  • May conduct on the job informal training and coaching for swim instructors in order to assess their skills and determine areas that are in need of improvement.
  • Wears approved attire at all times.
  • Reports to scheduled work shifts on time. 
  • Attends required meeting and training sessions.
  • Employee may be asked by the supervisor or acting supervisor to perform other duties that are not listed but are essential to the job. 
 
Minimum Qualifications / Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and understand the English language with proper spelling and grammar to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to work under pressure and maintain steady communication. 
  • Ability to make rational decisions efficiently during variable and sometime stressful conditions, including the ability to calmly interact with the public and other City personnel. 
  • Ability to respond to emergencies, changes and directives effectively. 
  • Standard office procedures, systems, and practices including the use of a computer and computer software. 
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must have adequate environmental tolerance, including the ability to work in high temperatures and confining work spaces.
 
Education, Training, and Certification Requirements
  • Must be 18 years of age or older. 
  • A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must have supervisory experience with a minimum of one (1) year experience working as swim instructor, lifeguard or equivalent swimming experience.
  • Must currently hold or be able to obtain a CPR Certificate and First Aid Certificate.
