Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and Scholar Management Facilitator - Transportation

PBIS Bus Coordinator  
Months: 12 Month Position
Hours: 8 hours per day
Salary: $100,834 Non-Negotiable

POSITION SUMMARY: In Federal Way Public Schools we believe that students thrive academically and socially in environments where there are high and clear expectations and where students are authentically acknowledged and praised for their positive choices. We know that proactively building positive culture is essential for student academic and social growth as well as the growth of executive functioning skills. As a part of these efforts, we are looking for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Bus Coordinators to help drive this work on our bus fleet and to help to support a system where scholars are full of joy and know that they belong. 
 
The PBIS and Scholar Management Facilitator will create and sustain PBIS systems, with a particular focus in Tier 1, support and develop bus drivers to create, maintain, and drive incentive systems, and collaborate with scholars, parents, teachers, and leaders to implement multi-tiered systems of support. 
 
The PBIS and Scholar Management Facilitator will work under the direction of the Executive Director of Transportation in coordination with the Office of Equity to provide the overall management of the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports program on the bus including providing training and technical assistance to Bus Drivers in order to maintain and develop district-wide PBIS systems on the school bus.
 
This includes but is not limited to coordinating and facilitating staff workshops and trainings as well as parent and staff partnership activities.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive.   • With a relentless focus on equity, assists the Executive Director Transportation in achieving the goals of the school district’s strategic plan and carrying out policies established by the Superintendent and Board of Directors.
  • Provides leadership in program development in PBIS within the transportation department, to include development of PBIS resources targeting the needs of transportation staff and engaging in long and short-range planning for ongoing, evidence-based improvement.
  • Provide and/or facilitate quality professional development to transportation staff around PBIS, de-escalation strategies, conflict resolution and the three tiers of PBIS: universal, secondary and tertiary
  • Develop collaboration with multiple district departments and initiatives including the Office of Equity, Teaching for Learning, Student Support Services to ensure Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports for scholars.
  • Facilitate sustainability and expansion of PBIS practices district-wide.
  • Ongoing coaching of school bus PBIS teams
  • Collaborate with building PBIS teams to identify building-specific needs for support
  • Oversee district level data collection, management and analysis. Collaborate with the Office of Equity on trainings and ongoing support to district Bus Drivers. 
  • Train and provide ongoing technical and data analysis support to staff who use school-wide data collection systems (SWIS).
  • Collect and monitor school and district databases to track and analyze student behavioral data including office discipline referrals, suspensions, team implementation, coach assessment of systemwide implementation, and climate survey patterns.
  • Work with drivers, transportation supervisor, school administrators, parent/guardians and students to maintain expected student behavior on district school buses.
  • Investigate student misconduct received through scholar management referral forms turned in by drivers, concerns from school administrators, parents, concerned citizens, and students.
  • Investigate student misconduct by reviewing video recordings, interviewing drivers, and collaborating with schools for interviewing students
  • In collaboration with the building principal, help to determine/recommend appropriate corrective action for violation of conduct and behavior expectations/rules, and inform driver of corrective action taken.
  • Meet regularly with transportation supervisor to provide information regarding student bus conduct issues.
  • Facilitate and promote conflict resolution ideas for students and driver.
  • Contact parent/guardians of students regarding misconduct, results of investigations and corrective action, setting up and attending parent/guardian conferences as needed with transportation supervisor.
  • Maintain records of student misconduct, communicate with school administration via established procedures (i.e. email, hard copy to parent/guardian via mail).
  • Create and provide video clips/ files for viewing misconduct for transportation supervisor and building principals as needed, informing mechanics of malfunctions to video system.
  • Assure accurate and timely dissemination of information.
  • Keep informed of trends in PBIS and SEL, as well as other pertinent areas, such as federal, state and local laws, and district regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Represent the transportation department in a positive manner and communicate effectively between staff, students, parents/guardians and building/district administration as appropriate.
  • Respond to emergencies, trouble calls, and as requested; remain flexible, under changing needs and circumstances.
 
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinates special projects as necessary.
  • May be needed in emergency situations to provide support for students and staff regarding transportation services.
  • Participate in regional, statewide and national PBIS leadership conferences and meetings.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in education or related field
One year of experience working with school-aged students and understanding of school systems
 
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience providing presentations in front of a group of learners
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Successful implementation of PBIS
Knowledge of professional development for adult learners
First Aid/CPR and Medical Examiners certificate or ability to obtain, preferred but not required
 
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Criminal background clearance
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basis
Valid Washington State Driver’s License

Research, best practices and technical aspects of PBIS
Laws and procedures for conducting student investigations
Best practices in adult pedagogy
School board policies and procedures
Record-keeping techniques.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive keyboarding and pushing/pulling. The employee will constantly be required to sit for extended periods of time and use a computer screen and keyboard. The employee may occasionally be required to squat, kneel, and use hands for fine manipulation, climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 pounds and must frequently lift /carry up to 20 pounds. The employee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 35 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 100 pounds.

WORK SCHEDULE
This position typically works, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 260 days per year

Position reports to and is evaluated by the Executive Director of Transportation.

This position is non-represented
 
LEVEL OF COMPENSATION
Manager I level on the non-represented salary schedule. 
This position includes the following benefits prorated based on FTE – Medical, dental vision; sick and vacation leave; life insurance; retirement. Professional development dollars (for FWEA, FWEA-ESP, Principals Non-rep, Prof Tech), vacation cash out and Veba for eligible sick leave cash out.
