Job Summary: The research assistant will be part of a supportive and motivated laboratory team that investigates the molecular mechanisms and potential new treatments for obesity and diabetes. Under supervision of the principal investigator, conducts a variety of routine experiments using molecular, cell biology and/or biochemistry techniques. Records test results, calculates, transcribes, and analyzes data using basic statistics. Manages mouse colonies including breeding, weaning and genotyping and assisting with in vivo mouse studies. The ideal candidate would have experience with mouse colony maintenance and handling, and would have outstanding organizational skills. Experience working with adipocytes (fat cells) would also be desirable. Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  1. Accurately and efficiently enters all required data from paper case report forms into the respective databases. Understands the data entry process (i.e. missing values, not applicable values, entering values from unknown dates, etc.).
  2. Enters and documents changes in the database via computer entry screens as well as written documentation of changes made to the paper case report forms as a result of a query or an unsolicited correction. Actively participate in wikidoc material creation and editing.
  3. Prepares, sends and resolves data queries for the clinical sites, records receipt and return of all queries from each clinical site.
  4. Actively participate in all educational projects within the team.
  5. Assist Director with complex scheduling requests and requirements. Assist with travel logistics/requirements for Director and related team members. Any other duties as assigned by Director.


Required Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree required in Degree in science-related discipline preferred.
  2. 1-3 years related work experience required.
  3. Careful attention to detail.
  4. Ability to problem solve.
  5. Ability to demonstrate professionalism.
  6. Experience with computer systems required, including web based applications and some Microsoft Office applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access.

  5. Customer Service: Ability to provide a high level of customer service and staff training to meet customer service standards and expectations for the assigned unit(s). Resolves service issues in the assigned unit(s) in a timely and respectful manner.


Physical Nature of the Job:

Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Some elements of the job are sedentary, but the employee will be required to stand for periods of time or move through out the hospital campus
