The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) is seeking applications for candidates for the position of Engineer Trainee Transportation (ETT), Electrical. Engineer Trainees are assigned a 40 - hour work week. Current starting salary is $59,988 and $62,301 after six months. Standard workweek is Monday through Friday. Location: Cherry Hill Office Description The Bureau of Mobility Engineering is responsible for the design, construction, and maintenance of Intelligent Transportation Systems for the Transportation Mobility unit of Division of TOS&S. The Bureau of Mobility Engineering is also responsible for the review of communication and electrical engineering submissions for all projects managed by Mobility Engineering that involves installation of FiberOptic Communication network, Dynamic Message Signs, Traffic Cameras, Adaptive Traffic Signal Systems and Connected Vehicle technologies. Mobility Engineering manages ITS projects from concept development to construction phase following a custom designed limited scope project delivery process; Installation of Connected Vehicle Infrastructure along State Highways; providing support to maintenance of all ITS device and system operations; provide field assistance to designers, contractors, resident engineers, and construction safety staff; provide Subject Matter Expert(SME) support to other Divisions within NJDOT. Work Description Appointee will assist in the preparation of electrical engineering designs, conduct reviews and field investigations as required for new and replacement ITS facilities such as Dynamic Message Signs, Traffic Cameras, Traffic Sensors, Radar Detectors, Wrong Way Driving Detection Systems, material approvals for all ITS construction projects. Duties will involve both field and office work.

The Department of Transportation (DOT) currently offers a telework pilot program, and this position may qualify for up to 2 days of remote work at your primary residence outside of your assigned DOT work location. This program does not supersede the "New Jersey First Act", which requires newly hired NJDOT employees to establish, and then maintain, principal residence in the State of New Jersey. New hires will not be eligible for the telework pilot program until they successfully complete their 4 - month working test period.

REQUIREMENTS Degree: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. Note: Possession of a valid Professional Engineer's License issued by the New Jersey State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors may be substituted for the Bachelor's degree in Engineering. Note: An Engineer - In - Training (EIT) certification issued by the Division of Consumer Affairs, New Jersey Office of the Attorney General may be substituted for the above education requirement. Applicants must submit proof of the EIT certification and the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam results. The area of discipline indicated on the FE exam results (e.g., Civil, Electrical and Computers, Chemical, Industrial and Systems, Environmental, Mechanical, and Other Disciplines) must be appropriate to the position.
