Investment Research
Looking for an outstanding opportunity to acquire hands-on experience with fundamental analysis and the investment research process? Fidelity's investment research internships give interns the chance to acquire the core research skills needed to begin a successful and exciting career in investment management.

Investment Research Interns support investment decisions by building financial models, completing financial analysis, and conducting proprietary research. These internships give maximum exposure into the holistic research process through collaboration with research analysts, portfolio managers, traders, quantitative research analysis, and investment support associates.

Education and Experience

  • Class of 2025 Bachelor’s degree candidates
  • Interest in growing knowledge of fundamental research and investment management
  • Shown initiative in studies and extracurricular activities related to financial markets
  • Intellectual curiosity and dedication to continuous improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proactive; seeks additional responsibilities and learning opportunities
  • Proven success during academic career
  • High levels of integrity
  • Prior internship experience in corporate setting

Training
  • Emphasis on hands-on training from Research Analysts directly related to intern projects 
  • Opportunity for training in conjunction with investment interns in Equity, High Income, Fixed Income, and Strategic Advisers investment divisions at Fidelity
  • Mentorship from senior research analysts and associates
  • Exposure to Portfolio Managers and investment thought leaders

Mentorship
Each intern will be assigned a Research Associate mentor and a Research Analyst mentor to work with throughout the program.

Conversion
Successful interns may receive an offer at the end of the summer internship to return as a full-time Research Associate post-graduation.

Fixed Income (Security Analysis)

The Department
Fidelity’s Fixed Income Division is one of the world’s leading fixed income managers with over $1 trillion in fixed income assets managed by a staff of more than 190 investment professionals. At Fidelity, we combine fundamental research on domestic and international debt issuers with macroeconomic and quantitative analysis to make investment decisions and help our clients achieve their financial goals. The Fixed Income Division is headquartered in Merrimack, New Hampshire.

The Role
The Fixed Income Research Associate Internship Program is a 10-week internship designed to recruit talented, hardworking undergraduates to develop fundamental company research, financial modeling, and industry and comparative analysis skills through training and direct work with fixed income professionals. In addition to getting exposure to the different asset classes within Fixed Income (money market, corporate bond, structured, muni, and macro), the internship will be composed of the following elements: 

Rotations within a specific team  

  • Interns participate in project-based rotations designed to enable students to explore different areas of Fixed Income Research and learn about the investment process 
  • Rotations are assigned based on market developments, team capacity, and business need. All will include analysis of an investment opportunity and a chance to communicate a recommendation to investment teams
  • Rotation possibilities include corporate credit (industrial and financial), municipal credit, macro research, quantitative research, and personal bond management 

Strategic Advisers (Mutual fund analysis and asset allocation)

The Department
Strategic Advisers, LLC is a registered investment advisor and wholly owned subsidiary of FMR LLC that provides investment management services to clients through Fidelity’s retail and institutional distribution channels. For more than 25 years Strategic Advisers has specialized in the design, construction, and management of asset allocation solutions, as well as the methodologies for many of Fidelity’s investment planning tools, to help investors reach their financial goals. With close to $700 billion in assets under management in a blend of Fidelity and third-party investment vehicles, the Strategic Advisers team of investment professionals’ constructs and manages asset allocation portfolios for more than a million customer accounts.

The Role
The SAI Fundamental Research Associate Internship Program is a 10-week internship designed to recruit talented, hardworking undergraduates to develop investment management and research skills through training and direct work with Research Analysts and PMs. In addition to getting exposure to asset allocation and manager research, the internship will be composed of the following elements:

Rotations across asset class teams and hands-on research projects

  • Exposure to the different asset classes through rotations with our Research Analyst teams in Fixed Income, US equity, International Equity, and Alternative Investments (i.e hedge funds).
  • Interns will be asked to creatively evaluate investment managers, through analysis of a fund’s team, track record, quantitative risk factors, portfolio characteristics, and underlying holdings.
  • Opportunity to present analysis and recommendations to senior members of SAI’s investment team
  • Independent capstone project directly related to day-to-day work of our team (prior projects have included Sustainable investment manager research, diverse and emerging managers, and asset-class recommendations)
  • Frequent opportunities to participate in meetings with best-in-class Fidelity and external investment managers
  • Mentorship and networking opportunities with PMs, Research Analysts, and senior leaders.
