Community Engagement Internship

Community Engagement


CRWA’s community engagement internship offers on-the-job training in climate resilience and environmental justice tasks in support of our Climate Change program. Areas of focus may differ depending on intern skills and interest, but may include researching stakeholders in a community, attending community meetings, writing comment letters about environmental initiatives, hosting a training event, and environmental advocacy.

Potential Skills Gained:
  • Learn about important water quality and environmental issues
  • Stakeholder engagement and outreach, communications and event planning
  • Professional experience working with a small non-profit organization
  • Working with diverse stakeholders
  • Community and landscape planning
  • Event planning and implementation
  • Writing, commenting and presenting about environmental issues
  • Preparation of graphics for handouts/brochures, newsletter articles, and public presentations for education and outreach
  • Research on a variety of topics such as climate resilience measures, flood control, urban heat island and tree canopy, green stormwater management

Desired Experience:
  • An interest in environmental and water quality issues
  • Willingness to learn and ability to work independently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, multilingual is a plus!
  • Preliminary coursework in environmental science, political science, or a related field
  • Experience with Google Workspace, Canva and Microsoft Office - social media savvy is a plus!

Compensation:
This is a paid internship opportunity. Interns are compensated $15/hour for part-time work at Charles River Watershed Association.

CRWA's internship positions are open to all individuals who are looking to kick-start their careers in water. Internships offer training in a variety of areas, including environmental science, climate resilience, advocacy, and education, and provide individuals an opportunity to be part of an exciting and dynamic team. If you have interest and/or experience that would relate to multiple internships, please indicate that in your cover letter: our small organization works collaboratively across program areas.

Internship Details:
  • All internships are available to students earning academic credit or stipend from an educational program to participate.
  • CRWA currently offers two paid internship opportunities: Community Engagement Intern and Multimedia Intern.
  • In the event an applicant for an unpaid internship position does not receive expected funding from their original source, CRWA may be able to offer to fund, but it is not guaranteed.
  • All internships are generally part-time––schedules are flexible within normal business hours and we request that interns commit at least 16 hours per week toward their internship
  • Interns work directly with CRWA staff, volunteers, and community partners
