Scripps Research is seeking a Research Technician for the Andersen Lab in the Department of Immunology and Microbiology. The Andersen Lab studies emerging viruses and the outbreaks they cause — including SARS-CoV-2, Lassa, Ebola, West Nile, and Zika — using an integrated approach of fieldwork, high-throughput next-generation sequencing, and computational biology.
The Andersen Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to contribute to our on-going projects in metagenomic and high-throughput sequencing for SARS-CoV-2 virus by performing bench-level experiments and processing clinical samples.

  • Through experimentation with our new protocols, a successful candidate will develop skills in documentation of experimental procedures, data interpretation, computational analysis, and methodological problem solving.
  • The research technician will be expected to collaborate with lab personnel and coordinate research with our many public health partners across the world. They will present work at lab meetings and participate in academic publications as well.
  • This research opportunity is particularly suited for candidates who plan to continue their scientific education in graduate school and are passionate about infectious disease research and global health.
  • The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques including PCR and is familiar with next-generation sequencing methods.

REQUIREMENTS:

Basic qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific discipline and up to one (1) year of related wet lab experience.
  • Experience with basic molecular techniques, e.g. PCR.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
