(Hyrbrid) Digital Communications Specialist, School of Engineering (10003578)

The Digital Marking Communications Specialist is part of the communications team within the Vanderbilt School of Engineering Deans Office at Vanderbilt University. This position is responsible for the creation, development, and management of all digital marketing communications efforts including social media, events, and public relations. It will leverage social media/digital platforms to continually improve the School of Engineering’s presence while collaborating internally and externally. This is a flexible hybrid position. There are times that the position will be required to come to VU Campus.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Enhance the internal and external communications including initiatives to improve stakeholder communication
  • Create, seek approval for and implement communications plans for social media and develop content for blogs, tweets, IG and Facebook, and LinkedIn as well pictures and videos for these outlets
  • Manage and grow the School of Engineering’s presence on social media and other digital outlets
  • Manage relationships with external artists, photographers, videographers, graphic designers and freelance writers
  • Create and manage content for internal communications channels throughout engineering buildings
  • Plan, write, and seek approval of content for weekly e-newsletter and monthly e-newsletter keeping messaging and audiences in consideration. Update and maintain graphical designs of digital communications according to best practices and emerging trends. Set up and send newsletters according to established publication schedules
  • Be an active participant in planning and executing marketing campaigns
  • Update, maintain, and provide school-level support for organization’s website
  • Prepare current website for planned rebuild, actively engage in the rebuild/redesign process, and maintain new website adhering to branding guidelines and content updates
  • Become proficient at using the university’s digital asset management system to support the communications staff and fulfill photo/video requests from internal stakeholders
  • Collaborate, write, produce and proof on materials within special projects related to the School of Engineering with staff in VU Communications, Digital Strategies, Marketing Solutions, and Development and Alumni Relations
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, corporate communications, journalism, business, computer science, design, marketing, or public relations is necessary
  • 2-5 years of experience working in an often overwhelming, demanding, high-stakes environment
  • Strong writing, negotiation, time-management, prioritization, and communication skills
  • Evidence of creativity, teamwork, ability to meet deadlines, extensive knowledge and experience with social media platforms
  • Ability to plan, manage, and execute initiatives with minimal oversight/supervision, but have situational awareness to know when to seek approvals and when sound judgement should be used
  • Graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
  • Highly desired photography and videography (shooting, editing, producing) skills
