Volunteer & Internship Coordinator

Action for Boston Community Development is a nonprofit human services organization that each year provides more than 100,000 low income residents in the Greater Boston region with the tools and resources needed to transition from poverty to stability and from stability to success. 

Duties include:
  • Responsible for developing and managing an agency-wide referral network to supplement existing service delivery program resources with appropriately placed volunteers and interns.
  • Develop and implement an effective outreach program which targets such potential volunteer and intern groups as college students, seniors, and service organizations as well as the general population
  • Maintain and audit the agency’s volunteer management system, Volgistics, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
  • Oversee the preparation of periodic volunteer recruitment bulletins and volunteer newsletters, process volunteer requisitions, and prepare volunteer position descriptions
  • Oversee the volunteer and intern application lifecycle process
  • Maintain an up-to-date volunteer and intern position bank and volunteer files
  • Review and evaluate potential volunteer and intern backgrounds and make referrals to appropriate ABCD programs
  • Develop and implement effective orientation, training, and evaluation programs for volunteers and interns.
  • Submit monthly reports on program activities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time

Job Qualifications:
  • A minimum of a high school diploma/GED or equivalent and 3-5 years of experience in a position utilizing interviewing/job placement/counseling, volunteer program management, development or related field is required.
  • Proficiency working with Volgistics or other volunteer management systems preferred.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to deal sensitively and effectively with persons of diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong public speaking.
