Strategic Initiatives and Partnerships Intern
POGO’s Strategic Initiatives Program Team is looking for an intern interested in strengthening civic engagement in advancing government accountability.
Opportunities for learning and professional development:
- Designing grassroots and “grasstops” advocacy strategies for impact
- Developing effective tools and communication
- How to tackle federal corruption, waste, and abuse of power
Responsibilities include:
- Contributing research to civic engagement projects that advocate for diverse set of policy priorities including: accountability of specific federal agencies and departments, such as Pentagon and Customs and Border Patrol; federal spending transparency; equity and infrastructure investment; tackling foreign malign influence and illicit flows; and potentially other issues as they arise.
- Researching target districts/states for potential local or state organizational partners
- Monitoring media coverage of POGO-issues in target districts/states
- Writing citizen fact sheets and other civic engagement and advocacy materials for the POGO website
- Drafting correspondence with and opinion pieces for POGO influencers around the country to sign
- Generally supporting the SIP team in building presence around the country as necessary
- Participating in coalition meetings on behalf of POGO
Qualifications:
- An interest in good government and a commitment to non-partisanship
- Excellent writing skills and prior research experience
- Ability to apply strong attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Access to a computer capable of using and installing Microsoft Office (Word,Excel), and access to reliable internet and phone connections during work hours.
- Availability during POGO’s core working hours (9am-6PM) in the Eastern Time Zone.
Logistics:
The internship is remote and requires a commitment of 30 hours per week during normal office hours EST. We offer compensation ($17/hour) to interns who cannot receive school credit or outside funding for their internship experience.
While POGO will work with an individual’s time restrictions, we ask that there is a minimum commitment of three months. Traditionally we have only accepted full-time interns, but if you can’t commit to full-time, please include in your cover letter why we should make an exception for you.
Start and end dates are flexible.
