Senior Diversity , Equity and Inclusion Coordinator

The Senior Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Coordinator is responsible for the identification, coordination, and implementation of strategic diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts both internal to the organization and external across the city’s diverse communities. The position is responsible for assisting city staff to embed DEI into daily practices and to implement measures that eliminate barriers in order to create a more inclusive community for all. The position will collaboratively partner with both individuals and groups to advance the city’s community engagement and outreach strategy.

Duties/Responsibilities
1. Coordinate equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts across the city.
  • Develop approaches to enhance the city’s appreciation and acknowledgment of diversity, culture of inclusion and fostering a respectful workplace.
  • Contributes to strategic decisions through gathering data and research
  • Develop tools and measures and provide outcome reporting on a regular basis. Conduct surveys, focus groups, or perform other methods of data collection in order to create metrics for and track outcomes for initiatives.
  • Monitor national trends and policies and practices affecting equity and diversity in local government.
2. Coordinate, and advance the city’s community engagement and outreach strategy.
  • Establish relationships and collaborate with culturally specific organizations, educational institutions and individuals interested in volunteering or partnering with the city or broader community on DEI initiatives.
  • Participate on and often leads cross-departmental teams, work groups and committees established to achieve the strategic DEI objectives of the city.
  • Partners with staff throughout the organization to develop and provide community outreach in advancement of DEI goals.
  • Collaborate with community partners and foster relationships with underrepresented communities to provide city services, educational opportunities and meaningful connection within the community.
  • Serve as staff liaison to potential Commission by providing technical research and advice to members.
  • Perform cost and impact analysis of Commission initiatives. 
3. Coordinate and facilitate equity and inclusion-focused dialogues, professional development and events with employees.
  • Serve as the Internal Diversity Committee facilitator.
  • Serves as Government Alliance on Race and Equity (GARE) representative
  • Provide department/individual professional development opportunities tailored to specific departmental goals and needs. 
  • Design, coordinate and implement citywide annual training, education and learning programs for staff in the areas of DEI
  • Conducts research and prepares supporting documents and materials for council meetings as required by state law, city ordinance or requested by city manager
4. Perform other duties consistent with the responsibilities of the position as apparent or assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications   (expected to have to enter job)
  • Two years of experience developing and/or coordinating diversity programming and/or experience with organizing community engagement activities and 
  • Bachelor’s degree in human services, business, social work, public administration or other related field OR equivalent experience in lieu of degree
  • Experience facilitating and/or leading cross-departmental teams, work groups and committees established to achieve the strategic DEI objectives of the organization
  • Ability to relate to and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, racial and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication skills (listening, verbal, and written).
 
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
  • A Master’s degree in human services, business, or public administration, education or related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in developing and/or coordinating effective equity and race relations programs.
  • Experience in public sector practices and policies, including working with boards and commissions and community organizing. 
  • Experience conducting research, preparing supporting materials and presenting findings to stakeholders
  • Cultural competency and awareness to coach city staff and build relationships across diverse communities.
  • Fluency in a non-English language(s).
  • Supervisory experience.

Step 4 - $105,527.81
Step 5 - $108,233.65

*Yearly cost of living adjustment (COLA) and market adjustments may be in addition to the above listed salary step increases. Step increases may occur after six months, one year, two years, and three years from date of hire.
