The Institute for State Effectiveness, a Think (and Do) Tank that provides proven tools to help states deliver services to citizens through more accountable and effective governance, is looking for a research assistant to join our team. All assignments given to the research assistant will add value both to ISE and to the research assistant’s development as a professional in the field. This is a great early-career opportunity in the international relations and development fields, gaining first-hand experience on how to identify global challenges and implement solutions.
 
The position offers you the opportunity to:

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Conduct research and analysis on cutting-edge issues in international policy, governance and development
  • Assist with conducting literature and evidence reviews on key functions of governance (human capital, disaster readiness, market engagement, rule of law, etc.)
  • Support on research tasks related to insights analysis and ISE’s country programs
  • Develop policy memos and concept notes on issues of pertinence to governments and country operations
  • Support ISE-hosted events and institutional and program fundraising, including by researching potential funders, drafting grant proposals, and drafting reports to existing donors
  • Attend relevant lectures, workshops and conferences to distill information and convey lessons learned to the organization
  • Assist in other tasks to support the work of the research and programs teams as required, which will involve some administrative duties

Qualifications:
 
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, ideally in Political Science, History, Law, Economics or related similar discipline
  • Experience in the following fields: International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Data Science and International Development
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with a general understanding of data analysis techniques
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team as well as working individually as appropriate
  • Excellent research skills with an attention to details, accuracy, and good organizational skills
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with excellent written and verbal communications
  • Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research
  • Highly motivated self-starter, with ability to work successfully in a hybrid team environment
  • Passion for international development issues
