Senior Financial Analyst

Fermilab’s Emerging Technologies Directorate (ETD) is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst.  Under general direction of the Senior Financial Manager, the position will be responsible for a broad range of financial tasks to support ETD’s divisions and projects.

You Will
•    Assist with the development of budget and cost plans for projects funded by the Department of Energy (DOE), Strategic Partnerships, and other federal agencies.  Monitor and evaluate reasonableness and accuracy of financial plans and coordinate updates.
•    Prepare budget proposals for Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs) and Strategic Partnership Projects, in collaboration with Principal Investigators.  Advise on requirements.
•    Prepare and distribute monthly and ad-hoc financial reports including the consolidation of data from multiple divisions/projects; review assigned segments of the budget; present reports for review and discussion.
•    Prepare and review weekly labor reports to ensure compliance; identify errors and determine appropriate remedies; actively engage employees in appropriate training.
•    Perform financial and accounting duties including, but not limited to: variance analysis, project accounting, task maintenance, historical edits, service accruals, requisition review, purchasing statement review, contract closures, and cost transfers.
•    Perform cash flow analysis to determine funding needs at the project/task level for successful project execution.
•    Identify and communicate risks, issues, and needed actions to leaders.
•    Coordinate the allocation of monthly funding with applicable project/task leaders.
•    Communicate guidelines, procedures, and requirements for budgeting, reporting, and financial activities.
•    Assist with improving the efficiency and effectiveness of directorate financial processes, procedures, and deliverables.
•    Interact regularly with scientific, technical, business, and administrative groups within the Laboratory and User community.

We Are Looking For
•    Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Public Administration or similar field and 4+ years of relevant work experience OR high school diploma and 6+ years of relevant work experience.
•    Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including a demonstrated aptitude for attention to detail and comprehensive record keeping.
•    Excellent organization skills including the ability to independently coordinate and accurately execute multiple time sensitive tasks.
•    Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills including the ability to communicate optimally and courteously with a diverse workplace population.
•    Experience with Financial Systems (Oracle, SAS) and report development / analytics.
•    Knowledge of Budgeting & Planning, Project Accounting, Internal Controls and/or GAAP or DOE accounting policies are desirable.
•    Intermediate knowledge of Windows Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access); familiarity with pivot tables, lookups, and other formulas in Excel.
•    Willingness and ability to learn applications such as Kronos, Microsoft Access, Tableau, and financial systems along with their related query / reporting tools.
•    Comfortable in an environment focused on streamlining and automating processes.  Ability and willingness to learn and test new systems.  Related experience is a plus.
•    Ability to perform job duties under circumstances of frequent uncertainty and ambiguity.

Relocation is not available for this position.
