Associate Researcher

A position for an Associate Researcher is available in the Wagenblast Lab at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, NY starting in June 2023. The Associate Researcher will work under the general supervision of Dr. Wagenblast and will carry out cutting-edge research in blood stem cells and leukemia biology. The Associate Researcher will contribute to the lab’s ongoing research projects including single cell and spatial omics, assist with animal work (mice), and collaborate with other laboratory members. There is exciting potential for authorship in scientific papers and participation in conferences.

The central question of the Wagenblast lab is to understand how a normal blood stem cell can become cancerous. We apply cutting-edge CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing approaches and single cell technology in human primary blood stem cells to model the pre-leukemic and leukemic phases of acute myeloid and lymphoblastic leukemia in vivo. The goal is to uncover insights into the genetic, cellular, and developmental mechanisms of childhood leukemia and to identify therapeutic vulnerabilities of the disease. Recent relevant papers include Wagenblast et al. 2021 Science and Wagenblast et al. 2019 Nat. Commun.

The successful candidate has recently completed an undergraduate degree in Biology or a related discipline, should be willing to learn new techniques and make at least a 2-year commitment. We encourage applications from underrepresented or minority groups. Interested applicants should send a cover letter specifying why they are interested, include a CV and names and contact details for two or three references to Elvin Wagenblast.

Our lab is located within the Mount Sinai Campus, east of Central Park in Manhattan, surrounded by world-class stem cell and cancer labs, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and support. The School is one of the nation's leading medical schools, ranked in the top 20 schools for NIH funding.
