Clinical Research Summer Internship—Emergency Medicine

The Volunteer Research Internship Program in Emergency Medicine provides opportunities for academically accomplished undergraduate students and recent graduates who are seeking both research experience and clinical exposure. Research interns are immersed in various aspects of academic medicine including clinical research, performance improvement initiatives, patient advocacy, and hospital administration. Participation in each of these activities gives Interns insight into various aspects of the healthcare field. Volunteer Research Interns rotate through shifts at both North Shore University Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center, exposing them to the different operations of two unique emergency departments. The interns work directly with the clinical research team, and indirectly with physicians, nurses, administrators and other hospital personnel.

A research intern’s responsibilities include completing literature searches, patient screening tasks, data management duties, and basic scholarly writing. Interns have numerous opportunities to converse with physicians, residents, nurses and other healthcare providers in order to truly understand the many tiers in the healthcare process. Furthermore, the interns are able to serve as patient advocates and aid patients in a non-clinical manner.

All interested applicants should submit a resume, cover letter, and a copy of their transcript.

Check with your school's Internship Coordinator BEFORE accepting the hiring offer to determine if this position satisfies the criteria for receiving academic credit.
