Development Intern

Development Internship at The Bass 
 
The Bass is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic undergraduate to join the Development Department as an Intern. This opportunity is offered as part of a paid internship program supported by The Association of Art Museum Directors (AAMD), aimed at addressing the diversity gap in the museum field. As such, the internship is designed to engage college students from underrepresented backgrounds, including but not limited to, Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (BIPOC). 
 
The Intern will have the opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on experience in a variety of development activities, including individual and corporate giving, donor relations, database maintenance, and fundraising event planning, as well as attend a professional development conference. The Director of Development will mentor the Intern and help identify their key areas of interest to hone essential skills.  
 
The intern will support the following objectives: 
  • Planning the calendar of development events and activities for the 2023-24 season and in preparation for the museum’s 60th anniversary 
  • Building a fundraising strategy for FY23-24 across all development initiatives 
  • Developing sponsorship proposals for museum programs 
  • Collaborating with the Communications department to develop a donor renewal strategy 
  • Stewarding volunteer committees 
  • Executing annual Board handbook in advance of Board retreat 
 
RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Identifying and researching potential individual, foundation, and corporate funding sources 
  • Supporting staff in the planning and execution of fundraising and member events 
  • Drafting communications to stakeholders, including but not limited to members, donors, and local government 
  • Assisting with membership processing and renewal notices 
  • Supporting the gift acknowledgment process 
  • Assisting with appeal mailings 
  • Maintaining donor files and updating the donor database 
  • Other administrative duties as needed 
 
QUALIFICATIONS 
  • Interest in fundraising and the work of a development office 
  • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills 
  • High attention to detail and enthusiasm for working as a team 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle confidential information discreetly 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; database experience is preferred but not required 
 
REQUIREMENTS 
  • Must be an undergraduate student in their sophomore, junior, or senior year 
  • Commitment to a 12-week consecutive internship held between June 1 – September 30, 2023 
  • Flexibility to work occasional hours in evenings and weekends for event duties 
  • Must be available to attend either the American Alliance of Museums conference in Denver, CO May 19-22, 2023, or the Association of African American Museums conference in Nashville, TN July 26-28, 2023 
  • Use of personal laptop for the duration of the internship 
 
COMPENSATION 
The Intern will receive a stipend of $6,720 over 12 weeks (about 3 months), equivalent to an hourly wage of $16 for a 35-hour work week. The Intern will also receive a travel stipend of up to $3,000 to be used to attend either the American Alliance of Museums conference in Denver, CO May 19-22, 2023, or the Association of African American Museums conference in Nashville, TN July 26- 28, 2023.
