Clinical Social Worker Associate

The State of Connecticut, Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking three (3) qualified individuals for the position of Clinical Social Worker Associate.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Division: General Psychiatry Division
  • Units: Battell 2 North (PCN 126092), Battell 3 North (PCN 23758), Battell 4 South (PCN 24822)
  • Schedule: Full time (40 hours), 1st shift (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), Monday - Friday
  • Location: 1000 Silver Street, Middletown, CT

ABOUT THE UNITS: 
Battell 2 North, Battell 3 North, and Battell 3 South are acute general psychiatric treatment units with a maximum census of twenty-two patients. The units provide psychiatric treatment and stabilization for individuals living with severe and persistent mental illness, with the goal of discharge to the community in the most integrated setting possible. 

AS A CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER YOU WILL:
  • Manage the caseload and consult on complicated client/family problems in the treatment planning process;
  • Assess the psychosocial needs including both trauma and risk factors affecting specific clients;
  • Be responsible for completing treatment and discharge planning;  
  • Train/supervise Clinical Social Worker and Master of Social Work students on the wide range of client diversity;
  • Consult with others about the legal process;  
  • Apply legal knowledge to Civil commitments or CT Statutes; and         
  • Train individuals in the application of assessing for client strengths, coping strategies, and psychosocial risk factors.

CVH opened in 1868 as the State’s public hospital for the treatment of persons with mental illness. Today, CVH is the largest of DMHAS facilities, and includes 17 inpatient units over two campuses (Middletown and Hartford). The hospital includes both a general psychiatry and addiction services units. CVH provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care and substance abuse treatment, including treatment for pregnant women and persons with dual diagnoses. Specialty areas include geriatric and special services, an integrated network of comprehensive mental health services for older adults and young adult services. The facility also runs the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) program which addresses the needs of TBI survivors, including; reintegration into community living, independent living skills development, vocational and educational training, psychiatric, cognitive and neurological assessment and treatment, speech and physical rehabilitation as well as individual and family counseling.
