JUNIOR SANITARY ENGINEER GRADE 3

The City of Worcester is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Junior Sanitary Engineer, Grade 3 for the Department of Public Works and Parks. The position will perform engineering duties related to daily operations of Sewer Operations Division and focus on stormwater and wastewater issues and other related functions. The position will focus on environmental compliance using Federal and State regulations that affect operations of the City’s sewer and stormwater collection system and will require in office and field work. The employee will perform field inspection of Public Work projects, perform water testing and analysis, and perform field inspections related to compliance with the City’s fats, oils, and grease ordinance.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
·        Basic knowledge of principles and practices of Sanitary and Civil Engineering
·        Basic knowledge of water, stormwater, and/or soil sampling
·        Basic knowledge of modern methods and techniques as applied to the construction and maintenance of public works
·        Experience in conducting engineering investigations and writing technical reports
·        Ability to design and carry out general instructions effectively
·        Ability to work effectively with City, State, and Federal agencies and members of the public
·        Ability to make engineering computations and interpreting field data
·        Ability to interpret plans, and maps, for use in the field, ie., GIS
 
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
·        Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Environmental Science, OR;
o  An equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements.
·        Valid Driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·        Three (3) years of municipal sewer/stormwater experience
·        Experience with GIS software
·        Experience with CMMS/Asset Management Skills
·        E.I.T./P.E. Certification (additional stipend available)
·        Experience with writing technical reports
·        City of Worcester Residency

SALARY RANGE: $30.87-$37.62 hourly, full-time, with an excellent benefits package.
