Job Purpose
Serves as the Director of Special Projects for the Division of Student Affairs and Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS). Provides key leadership in various areas for Student Affairs, including recruitment and professional development, committee leadership, assessment and research, and strategic planning. Oversees all programmatic and personnel aspects of the Bully Pulpit program and civil discourse initiatives for HSS.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Public Administration, or related field preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Have knowledge of principles and theories of student development and the factors contributing to student learning and success. Knowledge and experience with leadership and organizational development. Must have experience in event supervision, collaboration, and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Position will oversee the Bully Pulpit Student Internship program.

1. Director of Special Projects-Division of Student Affairs: Serves as a member of the Leadership Team acting in the absence of the EVP as appropriate. Represent the Division of Student Affairs at meetings and official functions as needed. Assists student affairs EVP and staff in the establishment of vision, strategic goals, and priorities for the Division of student affairs.
Participate and collaborate with other staff during leadership team meetings. Provide leadership, support, and direction to division-wide efforts to help all undergraduate and graduate students be engaged, satisfied and successful, both academically and personally, at the College and after graduation.

2. Responsible for creating professional development opportunities for student affairs staff. Assist with assessment, research, and benchmarking efforts for the division of student affairs including, but not limited to discussion groups, data collection, and focus groups. Assist with strategic plan initiatives. Support the COVID-19 leadership team with research and supporting documentation needed.

3. Plan and coordinate leadership retreats and meetings for the division of student affairs. Develop and manage all aspects of special events in the division of student affairs. Assist with the summer orientation overnight experience.

4. Meet with students and others that engage with the division of student affairs. Provide customer service for families and students that require complex solutions Support and assist with conduct appeals. Work closely with the Student Affairs Board of Advocates and help develop communication strategies with the office of annual giving and division constituents.

Director of Special Projects- Humanities and Social Sciences: Provide oversight and coordinate programs and events that include political candidates, forums focused on civil discourse, and discussions on key public policy issues. Direct the Bully Pulpit series and serve as the point of contact. Communicate effectively with guest speakers and their teams. Develop essential event plans and timelines for the Bully Pulpit series. Collaborate with the HSS Dean to create successful programming and events.

Develop a Bully Pulpit Advisory Board consisting of HSS faculty and staff to coordinate programming and guest speakers.
