Physical Science Technician

Summary
This position is located with the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Sustainable Biofuels and Coproducts MU, in Wyndmoor, PA.
In this position, you will participate as a team member with the scientist in all phases of the research process related to the development of biofuels and renewable products.


Duties
  • Maintains inventory of chemicals, prepares solutions and reagents for use in the laboratory and safely disposes of waste material (both chemical and biological).
  • Assists and actively participate in one or more phases of the research process by performing a variety of technical duties.
  • Maintains, calibrates and modifies equipment and automated systems used for test and evaluation procedures.
  • Keeps detailed records of experimental data.
  • Tabulates, statistically analyzes, and summarizes data using personal computers and software packages.
  • Performs routine and recurring techniques and studies using a variety of specialized equipment.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

GS-05: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.

GS-06: One full year or progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees include Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Biochemistry.
