Responsibilities

The PR Manager responsibilities include: 
  • Manages the public relations functions and serves as the public relations specialist for The Ringling. Writes news releases, media alerts, fact sheets, talking points, PSAs, and creates press kit materials suitable for the media. Manages all national/international PR inquires, releases, requests for images, and news/media contacts. Manages tours of the Museum campus for visiting media, exhibition press previews, events and other PR-related programs utilizing a golf cart or other museum owned vehicle as needed. Writes, edits, and approves website static content. Assists in the development of positioning statements, key messages, and responses to public inquiry. Creates guidelines for content and proofreads for consistency in voice, style, and standardized institutional naming conventions. Supports the Marketing department's annual comprehensive marketing and communications plan by making recommendations for the media relations budget. 
 
  • Collaborates with the Head of Marketing on the development of strategic marketing plans and processes that identify and address the marketing needs of the Museum's exhibitions, programming, and events activities and enhance The Ringling's public image. Coordinates with the marketing team to provide a public relations plan for each exhibition, program, performance, and event, along with approved edited marketing copy; images, and associated credits; and logistical details as needed. Interfaces with department stakeholders to ensure effective PR coverage.
 
  •  Manages news media and broadcast productions about the museum and coordinates with appropriate staff, curators, and leadership on filming and preparation. Manages all external media photoshoot opportunities with assistance from the Marketing Manager. Compiles lists of upcoming exhibitions, programs, performances, and events to input into various community calendars & local guides. Prepares bi-monthly Ringling public events calendar for print. Monitors and tracks press releases. Uses Meltwater to produce media reports. 
 
  • Manages and designs marketing/promotional, PR, and community engagement campaign plans and timetables in various forms of media to coincide with internal department communications and public events for The Ringling. Works closely with the Marketing team in carrying out communications and marketing operations; providing management of print media scheduling and production. Discusses strategy, tactics, and the implementation of marketing and communications projects with the Marketing team. Makes suggestions and recommendations to the Marketing Director regarding PR and marketing functions. Provides input and makes recommendations for new campaigns, marketing promotions, or alternative channels of advertising. Shares in the compilation and analysis of data for recommendations and projections. 
 
  • Manages crisis communication. Serves as the primary contact for media inquiries, interviews, and all internal communication relating to a crisis. Prepares talking points for Executive Director, Marketing Director, Board of Directors, and Senior Staff as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and four years of experience related to marketing, and /or marketing functions, communications, media; or a high school diploma or equivalent and eight years of experience.
  • Note: higher education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.
  • Knowledge of:
  • Current media technology and trends
  • Public relations practices
  • Ability to:
  • Write and/or proofread and edit written word and/or information in various formats
  • Prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously
  • Promote an inclusive and welcoming work/education environment
  • Valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and two years of relevant experience
  • APR (Accreditation in Public Relations) Certificate
  • Previous experience with Meltwater PR software, Microsoft 365 Suite, and the willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies
  • Spanish language proficiency

Anticipated Salary Range

The anticipated rate of pay will range from the upper 40's to 60k annually based on the education, skills, and experience of the selected candidate. Please note that majority of applicants will be offered at midpoint of range.

Schedule

Monday - Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with a one hour meal period.  Please note that evenings, weekends, special events, or holidays may be required based on the needs of The Ringling.
