P230117 - Assistant Coach, Women's Basketball - Intercollegiate Athletics

Position Summary:  
The University at Buffalo’s Assistant Coach will assist in all aspects of the Women’s Basketball Program as assigned by the head coach. Develop a competitive Division I Women’s Basketball Team. Responsible for: recruitment and retention of student-athletes, planning and executing practices for the women’s basketball program, fundraising, and community and alumni relations. Oversee the academic progress of the women’s basketball student-athletes.
  • Teach skills related to the Women’s Basketball Program. Develop and implement thorough, sound and safe teaching plans. Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and administering all practice sessions as well as scouting future opponents. Make maximum use of all technologies to develop student-athletes to their fullest potential.

  • Recruit prospective student-athletes that can contribute athletically and academically to the program standards of UB. Recruit prospective student-athletes within assigned area to include planning, implementing, and on-the-road recruiting. Participate in recruitment and designation of scholarships. Develop, maintain and foster positive public relations with high schools and club teams within assigned area. Make maximum use of letter writing, social media, phone calls, clinic instruction and/or attendance, etc. in order to maintain a high level of visibility throughout these assigned communities. Maintain accurate recruiting lists and have thorough knowledge of all NCAA, MAC and University rules and regulations. Acquire all necessary knowledge to successfully pass the NCAA mandated recruiting exam.

  • Interact with the student-athlete and their family/support members. Provide guidance and support as necessary that aligns with team philosophy. Work in collaboration with the Student-Athlete Academic Services to monitor academic progress and status of women’s basketball team members. Support the well-being of the student-athlete in cooperation with the services of Sports Performance, Sports Medicine, and departments providing information regarding prevention and care of athletic injuries, mental wellness and nutrition.

  • Interact professionally with university faculty, staff and student body on a frequent basis. Interact professionally with support staff throughout the Division of Athletics (e.g., Student Services, Sports Information, Compliance, Facilities, Business Office, etc.). Assists in the preparation of alumni events and programs.

  • Responsible for procurement, purchasing, facilities management, and fund raising for the sport program.

  • Responsible for team travel arrangements, managing inventory of equipment and uniforms.

  • Responsible for managing and administering aspects of sport specific team budget.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Experience coaching or playing at the collegiate level, preferably Division I.
  • Successful experience as a graduate assistant or intern in a college athletic program is acceptable for up to one year of the required experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree.
