Internship - Valuation Actuarial

Security Benefit (SB), a leader in the retirement market, is seeking a Valuation Actuarial Intern to join the Actuarial Team. Security Benefit has been dedicated to helping clients plan and save for retirement for nearly five decades. Over the last several years it has become a top provider of retirement products and services through a nationwide network of independent financial representatives. This position will be based in our Topeka, Kansas office. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.
Responsibilities:
The Intern will be exposed to many aspects of the company's activities, especially how the day-to-day operations of a financial services company work. Intern will also assist with varying aspects of product valuation.  
  • Conduct data manipulation, organization, and analysis
  • Assist with updating and improving reports, spreadsheets, and documentation
  • Develop and utilize calculation tools in support of valuation
  • Special projects as assigned
Eligibility
Students eligible for an internship must be current full-time students. Students working during the school year will work up to 19 hours per week. SB will offer a flexible schedule to allow students to focus on coursework while gaining real work experience during their internship. Students eligible for the summer internship will also be full-time students and available to work up to 40 hours per week. 
Qualifications:
  • Full-time college student in Mathematics, Actuarial Sciences, Finance or Computer Science at the sophomore to graduate level
  • Commitment to pursue an actuarial credential demonstrated by preparation for Society of Actuaries-administered exams or exam credit preferred
  • Advanced Excel knowledge/skill required including functions and macro creation, editing and use
  • Demonstrated ability with Visual Basic coding, Access, SQL and/or C++ preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong GPA in major and in all areas of study
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines required
  • Accuracy and the ability to be very detail oriented are crucial
  • Demonstrates initiative and able to work independently
