Development Paid Summer Internship

The Friends Committee on National Legislation is a nonprofit lobbying organization that works to advance issues of peace and justice. The Summer Internship program hires young adults to work with various teams for two months over the summer.
The Development Summer Intern works with FCNL’s Development team to ensure we have the financial resources we need to support FCNL’s advocacy, education, and outreach. This intern will also help ensure strong relationships are maintained with our donors. Specifically, this intern can expect to:
  • Conduct testimonial interviews and collect testimonial articles
  • Steward donor relationships by calling long-time donors
  • Design and mail planned giving birthday cards
  • Assist donors
  • Database updates/cleaning (Raisers Edge)
  • Research for Foundation/grant writing
  • Assist in writing proposal with Foundation Director
  • Sort and date mail daily
  • Mail donor requested items from office
Interns are also encouraged to seek out and attend virtual forums at think tanks, congressional briefings, coalition meetings, and other networking events as opportunities arise. Supervisors work with their interns to make sure interns get what they need/want from the experience.
A completed application will include:
  • Complete application questions.
  • Resume (including education, work, extracurricular, and volunteer experience).
Applications are due on April 3, 2023. This year we will prioritize applicants who have previously completed another Young Adult Program, such as the Advocacy Corps.
FCNL offers an hourly rate of $17.00 for the eight-week internship. This intern position is expected to follow the FCNL work week which is M-F from 9-5:30 pm EST. This intern position may be either in-person or virtual, and the program runs from Monday, June 5, 2023 through Friday, July 28, 2023. Orientation is required and you are required to be available for the full two months.
In addition to working closely with a professional staff member at FCNL, interns will have opportunities to participate in lobbying, organizing and policy events.
Summer Interns may be asked to attend Quaker programming, including Silent Reflection, in order to meet and connect with Quaker constituents. There is no requirement to worship at these gatherings.
FCNL requires all staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by the date of hire, with the exception to those with religious, medical, and/or other exemptions. Candidates must provide acceptable proof of vaccination by the date of hire as a condition of in-person or hybrid employment.
