THE ORGANIZATION

Tanenbaum promotes justice and builds respect for religious difference by transforming individuals and institutions to reduce prejudice, hatred, and violence. As a secular and non-sectarian non-profit, Tanenbaum works to promote religious peacebuilders who help counter extremism and violence in armed conflicts, and tackles religious bullying of students, harassment in workplaces, and disparate health treatment for people based on their beliefs.
DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM

The Development Intern position is an exciting opportunity to impact fundraising in a dynamic nonprofit organization. Tanenbaum’s Development Department is responsible for developing and sustaining the organization’s financial base through the recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of individual donors and institutional funders.
 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The Development Intern will work collaboratively with all members of the Development Department. Working between 15-25 hours per week, the Development Intern will spend the majority of time conducting research of prospective funding sources and individual donors to identify those that align with Tanenbaum’s mission and programs. They will make recommendations based on research for which programs/projects to pursue a potential funder. The Development Intern may work with both the Development and Communications staff on projects to expand our donor communication and outreach. 
This internship is an exciting experiential opportunity to gain professional experience in a dynamic organization that is addressing one of the most critical issues of our time. 
 
 
Responsibilities will include the following:
·        Research and make recommendations based on the research for prospective funding, including: 
o   Corporate foundations and giving (through corporate social responsibility and other efforts) 
o   Foundations (public, private, family) 
o   Government funding opportunities (city, state and federal) 
o   Major individual donor prospects 
·        Actively participate in organizational wide and Development team meetings
·        Assist with database and contact updates 
·        Assist with aspects of proposal development and outreach
·        Assist with sponsorship request submissions
·        Such other responsibilities as may be assigned 
 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPECTATIONS


• Commitment to the mission and goals of Tanenbaum
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, not required
• Excellent writing and research skills
• Ability to analyze data and create clear written materials
• Interest in and knowledge of fundraising
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office; fundraising database experience preferred 
• Sense of humor
• Candidates who are available for Summer 2023 will be prioritized
