Development & Communications Associate

Development Associate Role Description

The development associate is a key member of ABC’s development team, which is responsible for supporting ABC’s programs and growth through fundraising. The development associate assists the executive director (CEO) and the director of development with a variety of fundraising and communications tasks including:
  • writing grant proposals and reports
  • meeting with foundations
  • researching prospective new funders (foundations and individuals)
  • writing copy for emails, social media, and outreach to individual donors
  • planning events, managing the donor database
  • preparing reports for the ABC board of directors.

The development associate also works closely with the rest of the administrative team to gather information from program staff about evaluations, impact, and future needs. Through this work, the development associate has the opportunity to learn about nonprofit programming, government systems, and program evaluation.

Each year, the development team plans a number of events including a winter gala, a spring auction, and participation in the New York City Marathon. The development associate will have the chance to write proposals for some of the largest foundations and corporations in New York City, as well as managing social media accounts and a mailing list with thousands of records.

The development associate will learn from and collaborate with others while also maintaining personal initiative and project leadership, increasing their knowledge in donor management, writing for private fundraising, and marketing and communications.

Salary range: $46,000 - $47,000
