
Childhood Education Instructor
General Description: Niagara County Community College is seeking dedicated, motivated individuals for a full-time, tenure-track Childhood Education instructor to provide leadership, engagement, and discipline expertise in continuing to move the program forward in innovative ways,. As a full-time faculty member at Niagara County Community College, successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence as well as provide program coordination. The start date of this position will be August 24, 2023.
The successful candidate for this position will have relevant professional experience in childhood education grades K-6 and focused academic study necessary to provide instruction in a full range of courses including, but not limited to Introduction to Careers in Teaching, Introduction to Elementary Education, Introduction to Contemporary Education, Disabilities: Birth to Adolescence, and Introduction to Literacy Instruction.
These classes can be held during days and/or evenings. They can be face-to-face, face-to-face enhanced with a Zoom option, asynchronous online, blended synchronous on Zoom, hyflex (face-to-face, synchronous Zoom, and asynchronous online), and hybrid (in-person and online). Regardless of the modality, the selected candidate would need to be available to report in person on campus to hold office hours and attend meetings and events when needed.
Responsibilities include teaching 15 contact hours of lecture per semester, student advisement, curriculum and course development, recruitment, coordination with transfer universities, and participation in college and departmental activities. The person selected may be appointed as the Program Coordinator for the Childhood Education AS degree program. Teaching load assignments will be made based on the selected candidate’s experience, background, and institutional need. A summer stipend is a possibility to continue the program rebuilding process. The successful candidate will only be required to work 162 days per academic year (August – May) and will be provided with a winter break from mid-December to early January, and a Spring Break for one week in mid-March.
In addition to the base salary, there are avenues to increase the salary by teaching overload, teaching summer courses, coordinating the program and doing special assignments, etc. There is a tenure track pathway for promotion to higher level salaries of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor.

Typical Work Activities:
- Participate in student recruitment
- Develop relations with Student Life, high schools, and the public education community
- Apply for grants and solicit other resources
- Develop and maintain transfer program articulation agreements
- Maintain subject matter currency
- Develop and revise the program’s curriculum
- Use computer technology including classroom technology and the College’s learning management system
- Assess course and program learning outcomes
- Advise students in the program and train advisors who help with students in the program
- Contribute meaningfully and regularly to departmental/divisional meetings, taskforces, and activities
- Participate in college and discipline-specific professional activities
- Cooperate with SUNY 4-year institutions as it pertains to curriculum coordination as well as student transfers
- Complete other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- MS Degree in Education or related degree
- Two years’ experience teaching in a college setting
- Professional experience in K-6 education
Desirable Qualifications:
- PhD, ED, or ABD in Education or related degree
- Experience with administrative functions such as program recruitment and program and course development;
- Knowledge of NYSED standards and procedures;
- Knowledge of assessment procedures and tracking;
- Experience with community outreach;
- Experience with field placement;
- Experience with grant writing;
- NYS Certification in grades 1-6 and/or K-2 or similar certification
