Research Analyst

Napa Valley College is seeking a Research Analyst in the Office of Research, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness (RPIE). The Office of RPIE supports college planning activities by providing data and analysis to inform decision-making and monitor institutional effectiveness; coordinating the development and implementation of institutional plans; ensuring a regular cycle of evaluation aimed at improving programs and services; promoting outcomes assessment as a means of measuring and improving student learning and institutional effectiveness; and fostering a culture that values and addresses accreditation requirements.

The incumbent in this position will be extracting and analyzing data to generate reports from various database systems; using research methodology to conduct institutional research studies; supporting college plans and processes including student equity, grants, and accreditation; and providing current status and future projections regarding course, program, and institutional-level performance.

This job reports to the Senior Dean, Research, Planning and Institutional Effectiveness.

This is a full-time, 12-months-per-year classified position. The salary has an appropriate placement on range 25 of the current Classified Salary Schedule. The starting salary range is $5,386 to $6,235/month, with future steps up to $7,577/month. Placement is made based on experience. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Functions:
  • Applies research methodology (e.g. design, extraction, collection, configuration, analysis, etc.) for the purpose of providing and reporting data, information, and reference as requested.
  • Collaborates with district personnel requesting information for the purpose of clarifying their needs and ensuring research is designed to address those needs.
  • Designs surveys and reports with statistical and other quantitative analysis of data for the purpose of collecting and providing personnel with information to support planning and decision-making.
  • Maintains knowledge of research resources (e.g. external data resources, research and statistical tools, regulations, student information database, etc.) for the purpose of identifying potential sources of data, incorporating effective practices, and referring district personnel to appropriate resources.
  • Monitors and assists with implementation of institutional research project list for the purpose of ensuring all project and activity timelines are met.
  • Participates in meetings and workshops for the purpose of communicating data and research results, and remaining current in practices and procedures in research analysis.
  • Prepares a wide variety of documents and written or electronic materials (e.g. reports, files, research data warehouse, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, conveying information, summarizing results, and meeting compliance for mandated reporting structures.
  • Responds to inquiries relating to research processes, data, and information for the purpose of resolving problems, providing clarification and context, and identifying sources for additional information.

Other Functions:
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Responsibility:
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.

Experience:
Three (3) years of job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility.

Education:
Bachelors degree in job-related area.

Equivalency:
Five (5) years of experience as research analyst in educational institutions.

Criminal Background Clearance
Tuberculosis Clearance

Title 8, USC, Section 1324-A requires verification of eligibility for employment in the United States.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree;
  • Courses in research, statistics, education, and/or public policy;
  • Work experience in higher education; and
  • Training and presentation experience.
