Bilingual Chinese/English Academic Specialist: Humanities
What do we do?
Co-founded by Harvard graduates, Sinica Education provides online educational services to bilingual international students in middle school, high school, and college. Our services include online accredited courses, academic counseling, one-on-one tutoring, and other academic support and guidance to ensure our students’ academic success.
Sinica Education is looking for a full-time academic specialist to help our students to navigate through an unfamiliar schooling system to achieve academic success. This is a full-time, on-site position in our West LA office. We provide H1B sponsorship for this position.
As an academic specialist, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Building impactful relationships with students, to support them through their academic journey
- Tutoring students to improve their academic performance on 2-3 of the subjects listed below.
- Tracking and managing students’ academic progress, engagement, tutoring hours, and other related tasks
- Offering feedback on progress to students’ parent/guardian and teachers where appropriate
- Advocating for student needs and interests by consistently communicating with all involved parties
The ideal candidate would be able to teach 3+subjects up to AP/lower college level:
- Literature
- World History
- US History
- Art History
- European History
- Political Science
- Government
- Religion
- French/Spanish
- Music Theory
- Finance
- Accounting
- Micro/Macroeconomics
- And other high school level subjects
What are the required qualifications?
- MUST hold a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a top university. Bachelor’s degree must be completed prior to applying.
- Fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
- In-depth knowledge content knowledge and understanding of 2-3 subjects listed above
- Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
- A real passion for equitable education and a desire to work with international students with diverse identities, cultural backgrounds, and academic proficiency
What are other desirable qualifications?
- Current MA, PhD or EdD candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Native or near-native (high) proficiency in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese and English
- Classroom teaching experience at the high school or college level
- One-on-one tutoring experience with high school or college students
- Experience with online learning platforms
