Verinomics, an ag-biotech company in Connecticut, is currently seeking a Research Assistant for a promising opportunity with their growing staff. In this role, the Research Assistant will be responsible for providing genomics, molecular biology, and tissue culture support for the Genomics and Molecular Biology Teams. The position will include basic laboratory tasks as well as running nucleic acid-based techniques and maintaining plant tissue culture lines to support gene discovery efforts and agricultural-based goals at the company.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of media, solutions, and buffers
  • Maintenance of supply inventories
  • Performing high-throughput nucleic acid extractions and genotyping assays
  • Molecular biology applications such as gene cloning, gene expression studies, PCR, etc.
  • Utilizing liquid handling instrumentation
  • Aseptic techniques including the initiation and maintenance of plant cell cultures
  • Data curation and record keeping; uploading data into a corporate database
  • Participating in multiple team-based projects as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, and/or a related field
  • Experience in lab-based research
  • Experience with data handling and recording
  • Excellent technical skills in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, and/or plant science
  • Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and/or written protocols, including follow-up on previously begun procedures
  • Proficiency in both Mac and PC OS systems, commonly used software such as Microsoft Office
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Great interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team setting
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment

Desired Skills:

  • Experience in aseptic techniques
  • Experience in molecular genetics
  • Microscopy and imaging skills
  • Familiarity with DNA analysis software
