UNH Crimes against Children Research Center Research Associate - New Haven, CT
The University of New Hampshire Crimes against Children Research Center (CCRC) and the non-profit organization Love 146 headquartered in New Haven, CT invite applications for a part-time Research Associate position located in the New Haven area. The position will involve assisting in the administration of a federally funded evaluation of an intensive service program for victims of commercial sexual exploitation of children (also knows as “child sex trafficking”).
The Research Associate will be responsible for supporting the research team in a variety of research-related tasks, including communicating with caregivers and youth about the study, conducting informed consent procedures, enrolling youth into the study, assisting with database management, and providing on-site communication with Love 146 staff regarding research activities.
Work Environment
CCRC researchers are dedicated to combating crimes against children by providing high quality research and statistics to the public, policy makers, law enforcement personnel, and other child welfare practitioners. The UNH team will oversee supervision of the position, with quarterly in-person meetings held either in New Haven, or in Durham NH and weekly remote meetings.
Love 146 is an international anti-trafficking organization whose Connecticut Survivor Care Program provides direct services to children and youth who are confirmed victims of or at high risk for child sex trafficking throughout the state of Connecticut. The position involves conducting some of the work at the Love 146 offices in New Haven, with potential flexibility to do some of the work remotely. Love 146 staff will assist in supervising the position as well.
The desired candidate will be part of a collaborative research project that will provide an opportunity to work with two internationally renowned teams working on child victimization research and victim services.
Required Qualifications
Applicant must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, psychology, or a related field. Master’s level degree preferred. Professional experience working with at-risk or vulnerable youth and their families required.
Skills
- Subject knowledge in violence against children
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work as part of a team
- Comfort communicating with adolescents and families
- Experience with and interest in evaluation research is preferred
- Successful candidate will have the ability to work independently and accurately, and to problem solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of research
- Knowledge of the ethical considerations surrounding research on sensitive topics
- Attention to detail and organization is required
- Fluency in Spanish preferred
The position is grant funded from May 1, 2023 – April 30, 2025 with the possibility of position continuing past that date. The position is part-time (20 hours) and will be located at the Love 146 headquarters in New Haven, CT with supervision led by the research team at the CCRC from Durham, NH.
