Data Operations Intern
Japan Society’s Manager of Data Operations is seeking an intern to assist with day-to-day operations of managing our database, helping with cleanup projects, and maintaining stability in our system. The ideal candidate will want to develop skills related to nonprofit operations and learn how nonprofits manage their data. No technical database knowledge is necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor the day-to-day operations of Japan Society’s databases: Raiser’s Edge NXT (RE NXT), Ticketure, and MailChimp.
- Consistently check the day-to-day integrity of database and database procedures; identifying and eliminating duplicate records.
- Assist with all general database maintenance and cleanup projects (maintaining records according to style guides, accurately updating information on all records, prepare large data files for import).
- Create forms and guides on current policies and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned by the Database Administrator.
Requirements:
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office Suite.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills.
- Ability to learn quickly new computer programs and technology.
- Interest in non-profits and Japanese culture a plus.
Internship Dates and Time Commitment:
Time Frame: Fall 2023 (September to December) with option to extend to winter/spring
Days per week: 2 or more days per week, hours negotiable, with choice of working in-person or in hybrid capacity
Learning Opportunities:
- Get hands-on experience of using and managing a database of over 200,000+ records, all the while learning how to extensively use Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT (RE NXT), one of the leading donor database systems used in the nonprofit sector.
- Learn how to manage and organize large amounts of data via RE NXT.
- Gain an understanding of nonprofit data organization and management.
- Hone investigative skills when tracking down records, queries, duplicates, and errors within database.
- Practice good data maintenance habits, useful for record keeping and keeping a synced data ecosystem running.
