Cattle Procurement Full Time Associate - 2024

Cattle Procurement Associate Position:
Associates will be trained in a number of areas to learn skills and gain knowledge vital to succeed in a procurement leadership role. After training, the associate will be placed in a territory that will be theirs to lead. In this territory they will purchase grain fed cattle to be sent to one of Cargill’s harvest facilities. 
The Cattle Procurement Associate role enables the individual to become familiar with the workflow of the operations, and to develop knowledge of meat processing production, including food safety and overall production management.
 
As an Associate, you will understand meat processing production, including process flow, yields, variances, USDA regulations and requirements, accounting, and information technologies. This position will also receive additional training in people leadership skills, OSHA requirements, ergonomics and safety training, HACCP, good manufacturing practices, coaching, and Human Resources practices. You will be exposed to all facets of the plant operations through an in-depth general orientation. The training is crafted to teach the various aspects of the business prior to placement in a role that aligns the candidate with business needs. 
 
You will be exposed to a number of fields that will give you the necessary tools to effectively schedule daily production, maintain a live inventory, and purchase grain fed cattle from various producers. 
 

Your Work:

  • Timely communication to producers and fellow employees involved with trading, transporting, harvesting and payment of cattle 
  • Maintain relationships with producers in the associate’s territory 
  • Accurately evaluate quality of cattle and enter estimates into procurement system 
  • Collect key industry certifications and documentation from producers and verify producer information is accurately represented in the procurement system

Job Locations & Environment:

  • Wichita, KS for the initial location; will be assigned a territory anywhere in the U.S. as hires progress in the role
  • Plant and office setting 
  • Travel approximately 25% of the time 
  • This role involves physical activity in agricultural, food, and feed processing environments which generally requires a moderate amount of exertion on a fairly regular basis – involving bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 50 pounds and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds. The work may also involve other exertions, conditions or exposures (i.e. heat, cold, dust, etc.). 

Required Qualifications:

  • Right to work in the U.S. that is not based solely on possession of a student visa or a visa sponsored by a third-party employer 
  • Currently pursuing or have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Agriculture, Business, Economics, Finance or related degree with graduation dates between December 2023 and August 2024 
  • Willing and able to relocate anywhere in the U.S. for assigned territory
  • Basic understanding of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and live cattle trading activities 
  • Strong negotiation skills 
  • A desire and willingness to work around and with livestock producers 
  • Demonstrated strong conflict resolutions skills 
  • Ability to hand multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment 
  • Ability to work optimally with individuals from a diverse set of backgrounds and cultures 
  • Ability to contribute, both as part of a team and individually  
  • Strong communication skills – written and oral 
 

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Overall 3.0 GPA or higher based off a 4.0 scale 
  2. Proficient in both English and Spanish
