Business Consultant | Summer EDGE Fellow

The Summer EDGE Fellows Program hires primarily graduate students (any discipline, plus promising rising seniors or non-traditional students) as business consultants to explore and validate new business opportunities for established Northeast Ohio businesses of different sizes. Fellows get to prioritize their interests in projects and are paired accordingly in cross-functioned teams of two and assigned experienced business mentors who work with them throughout the summer on their project to guide personal and professional development.

For the last 16 years, the program has provided students with a fantastic learning experience, connecting them with business leaders, providing valuable mentorship, and exposing them to the breadth and depth of the Northeast Ohio eco-system. Over the course of the two month program, students have a lot of autonomy to chart their course with business leaders, mentors and other driven students to conduct primary and secondary market research.

Students generally spend 2-3 days a week working with their team partner and/or meeting with company or industry leaders and 2-3 days a week working virtually or independently. Weekly EDGE Fellow meetings are at different types of businesses in the region where students collaborate with their peers and cultivate their professional network.

Deliverables include a comprehensive final report, recommendations and a presentation to senior leadership at one's host company as well as to a public audience. Great opportunity to get exposure to consulting and different types of Northeast Ohio businesses. Typical projects touch on northeast Ohio industries, such as manufacturing, healthcare/medical devices, coatings/chemicals, technology, advanced materials and other innovation. Consistently rated very highly by students, mentors and participating companies. In 2023, host companies rated the overall performance of their Fellows' team at 9.1 (out of 10) - average response.
