YWLA Community Engagement & Development VISTA Onestar
Founded in 2002, the Young Women’s Preparatory Network (YWPN) is a nonprofit agency that partners with public school districts across the state of Texas to operate the largest network of all-girls, public, college preparatory schools in the nation. Ysleta Young Women’s Leadership Academy (YWLA) is a member of the Young Women’s Preparatory Network (YWPN) and aims to lift the local El Paso youth out of poverty by increasing the community engagement and fundraising capacity of the agency. Ysleta YWLA is the only FREE, all-girl, college preparatory public school in West Texas serving grades 6-12 (middle school and high school). The Community Engagement & Development VISTA will aid YWLA with fund development and community engagement in order to support and expand quality educational services for low-income youth. These efforts will help empower and educate low-income girls to graduate high school and get accepted to a college of their choice to break the cycle of poverty.
The VISTA member serving in the Community Engagement & Development position will recruit volunteers for special events and fundraising, develop recruitment materials and facilitate fundraising committee meetings. The member will develop an event planning guide for fundraising events and create a fundraising plan for a peer-to-peer fundraising campaign. The VISTA member will also develop a marketing plan and marketing materials for effective communication with current and potential donors. Create an alumni relations plan to recruit and engage alumni in fundraising efforts.
