About the Job

The Industrial Engineer will develop, design, and oversee the construction, installation and startup of various woodworking equipment and processes involved in our business.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work with ownership, management, and production to evaluate selected manufacturing processes and equipment.
  • Develop modification plans to existing process procedures and equipment to improve operations.
  • Develop effective layout and equipment drawings for the selected projects.
  • Test newly installed machines and equipment to ensure fulfillment of specifications.
  • Provide training to junior team members.
  • Prepare detailed equipment specifications and contracts.
  • Uses computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create preliminary and detailed drawings of the product.
  • Collaborates with senior engineers to design cost-effective manufacturing layouts and building ergonomics for new product lines.
  • Designs, redesigns, or enhances work areas and layouts so that awkward or uncomfortable positions, repetitive motions, and inefficient operations are reduced or eliminated.
  • Maintains knowledge of best practices in manufacturing methods, and trends and developments in technology and equipment; applies this knowledge to maintain the organization’s competitive edge.
  • Identifies and assesses various problems and departures from established manufacturing standards and best practices; researches and recommends solutions.
  • Develops and maintains management information, planning, and control systems.
  • Prepares periodic progress and cost reports for leadership.
  • Ensures compliance with codes, guidelines, best practices, and policies.
  • Collaborates with the operations department to identify and troubleshoot problems.
  • Collaborates with project engineers from other plants to share problems and solutions.
  • Facilitates and contributes to the development of project plans and designs.
  • Recommends and/or analyzes materials, equipment, and practices used in the project.
  • Assesses the competence, capabilities, resources, and financial status of vendors.
  • Calculates cost analysis for integrating new machinery and equipment into the manufacturing process.
  • Uses programming knowledge and experience to adapt equipment to specific job applications.
  • Prepares operating instructions and programs for equipment.
  • Maintains detailed project tasks, schedules, and deliverables.
  • Ensures projects successfully meet developed timelines and budgets.
  • Coordinates mechanical tasks utilizing cross-functional teams and necessary resources to achieve required results.
  • Designs fixturing and equipment of varying types and complexity.
  • Develops processes, methods and production controls for new programs while mentoring others on proper use and maintenance.
  • Creates Plant layouts and process changes as related to specific projects.
  • Participates in projects related to cost savings, safety, quality and the elimination of waste.
  • Develops standard work methods and operational documentation for fabricated equipment and processes.
  • Utilizes state of the art technology and formulates solutions to complex manufacturing problems.
  • Supports operations in achieving the most efficient and cost effective production processes by evaluating downtime, procedures, equipment capabilities and capacities, and repairs to achieve an efficiency improvement or cost reduction.
  • Supports the implementation and continuation of the Preventative Maintenance programs.
  • Works with Operations and Maintenance team to solve manufacturing issues with equipment and processes.
  • Ensures that facility and operations are adhering to all federal, state and local safety and environmental regulations.
  • Meets established company objectives within own areas of responsibility, while assisting other areas in meeting their objectives through engineering process improvements to reduce labor cost per unit produced, justification and acquisition of capital expenditures, and proper maintenance of plant and equipment.
  • Keeps abreast of industry technology advancements which can be applied to improve plant operations, evaluate plant operations and recommend or develop ways to improve operations through improved methods or equipment improvements.
  • Shares technical information and training with other departments.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May assist with supervision of technicians.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering preferred. Other degrees and/or professional experience will be considered.
  • 5+ years of related experience preferred.
  • Proficient with Acad and /or Inventor.
  • Proficient computer and networking skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in planning, implementing, monitoring and reporting.
  • Commitment to working in a team oriented and continuous improvement environment.
  • Ability to define and analyze problems, evaluating relevant facts and develop effective solutions.
  • Available to travel as projects require.
