Senior Registered Nurse - Rapid Response

THE POSITION: Under general direction and following established medically-approved policies and procedures, the incumbent will implement specialized skilled nursing processes as a Rapid Response nurse for the Ventura County Medical Center. The ideal candidate will promote excellence and safety in professional nursing practice, while maintaining high ethical standards. 

Duties include but are not limited to the following: 
 

  • Responds to all patient care code alerts, e.g. Rapid Response, Code Yellow, Code Blue, Code White, Code Stroke, Code Maternity;
  • Rounds regularly, at least every two hours, on patient care departments, focuses and reviews higher acuity patients, recently down-graded patients;
  • Physically assess patients with bedside Registered Nurse (RN) / Charge Registered Nurse who are identified as higher acuity;
  • Implements nursing processes (assessment, planning, implementation of care plan, evaluation of patient response) and revises plans as needed;
  • Administers basic and advanced competency nursing care in accordance with Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) policies and procedures and the patient bill of rights;
  • Provides direction to others regarding complex health and patient problems;
  • Assists/facilitates patient transfer to appropriate level of care;
  • Provides patient staff education as appropriate to patient condition;
  • Assists with patient assessment and patient care when warranted and time permits (e.g. "4 - eyes assessment", medication administration);
  • Participates in hospital and/or nursing administration committee(s) projects/initiatives as assigned under direction of management;
  • Reviews, identifies, reports, and corrects deficiencies in practices, products, or equipment as necessary;
  • Develops, implements and documents performance improvement processes;
  • Recognizes problem situations and takes appropriate steps leading to correction;
  • Practices and role models consistent, courteous, and respectful staff, physician, patient/family centric interaction and communication; and
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE
Requires two (2) years of full-time professional registered nursing experience in the Emergency Department and/or Critical Care department.
 
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
 

  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California
  • Must possess a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment
  • Must possess a current, valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification by first day of employment
  • Must possess a current, valid Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification by first day of employment
  • Must possess a current, valid Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification by first day of employment
  • Must be willing and able to possess a NIH Stroke Scale certification within three (3) months of hire
