Research Associate II

Summary:

The successful candidate will work as part of an exciting Research and Development team that develops recombinant proteins and antibodies that support Grifols’ long history of diagnostic and therapeutic products. This role will require working as an individual contributor in a laboratory setting to execute experiments that may include molecular biology, recombinant protein expression, protein purification, and protein characterization.

 

Primary Responsibilities for Role:

  • Independently execute lab-scale microbial expression and downstream processing workflows for recombinant proteins and antibodies
  • Proficiently perform analytical protein assays to elucidate functional, quality, and structural information
  • Contributes to the experimental design and analysis of resulting data
  • Regularly summarize and professionally communicate results to key stakeholders

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • History of strong technical and hands-on laboratory skills
  • Ability to perform recombinant protein purification methods and use FPLC (i.e., AKTA) instrumentation with affinity, IEX, multi-modal, and SEC chromatography techniques
  • Experience with protein characterization technologies (e.g., BLI, DSF, ELISA, HPLC, light scattering, mass spectrometry, SPR, Western Blot)
  • Understands the fundamental science behind the employed research methods and tools
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Works independently or under minimal supervision to productively execute experiments and interpret, document, and communicate results
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Capable of lifting minimum 20 lb.
  • Expected to work primarily in a research laboratory
  • Fluent in English—oral and written

 

Education:

The ideal qualified candidate should have a BS or MS degree in biochemistry, biochemical engineering, biology, chemistry, microbiology, or other relevant life science field.

 

Experience:

3-5 years of laboratory experience

Pay Scale:

The estimated pay scale for Research Associate II role based in Emeryville, California is $80,000 to $120,000 per year. Additionally, the position is eligible to participate in up to 5% of the company bonus pool. Final compensation packages will ultimately depend on education, experience, skillset, knowledge, where the role is performed, internal equity and market data.
