Internship – Outreach and Community Engagement

Part time, non-exempt

Spring 2024 (January 8 – April 19)

Reports to:  Sr. Director, Outreach & Engagement

Location: Hybrid

Description of Intern Work Responsibilities/Projects:

• Work alongside the Manager of Education on grant funded events and educational workshops to include onsite/virtual support, logistics, registration, marketing, distribution of follow-up materials, etc.
• Conduct research on various topics such as digital and media literacy, working with Indigenous Latinx communities, adult education practices, computational thinking in early education, etc.
• Gather and process data collected from participants and partners via surveys, informal assessments, and anecdotal notes.
• Create and distribute educational materials for educators, families, and community partners.
• Write summative reports of impact & outcomes of events

 Learning Objectives:

• The process of outreach and engagement, from conceptualizing an idea to pitching it to stakeholders to executing the project.
• Developing and strengthening community partnerships with local organizations, such as neighborhood groups, special interest groups, government, libraries, etc.
• Understanding of best practices for engaging with families from indigenous communities.
• Insight into the grant implementation process.

Specific Skills Required:

• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong organizational, computer and research skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to manage technological transitions for virtual workshops.

LOCATION

WETA and NewsHour Productions are Washington, DC established media and news organizations.  We are a largely local workforce based out of the Campbell Place office in Arlington, VA.  WETA and NewsHour Productions value employee flexibility when possible.  Most positions based in our Arlington, VA office will be onsite or hybrid, depending upon the role.
