Entry Level Clerical Pool

Job Responsibilities

Kent County is opening an entry level clerical pool. As additional positions open up, we will update with a brief overview below. Our entry level positions (Clerk II, Clerk Typist II's) start at $18.08 per hour, our Docket Clerk starts at $19.59 per hour, with eligibility for merit-based increases after 6 months and annually thereafter.  We will be using one HireReach application process to fill all the positions. Current positions we are recruiting for: 

Clerk's Office Courtside - Docket Clerk ($19.59 per hour)
The Docket Clerk position provides skilled clerical services to ensure accurate preparation and documentation of case records for the 17th Circuit Court Clerk's Office. This individual receives and reviews filings for statutory requirements and dockets the pleadings. This position works with prosecutors, attorneys, probation officers, judicial staff and law enforcement agencies to provide information on criminal, civil and family division pleadings.
 
 A major function of the position is working with the public, in person and on the telephone, to provide public information on the status of cases, court operations and court procedures. This position will be actively involved in the implementation of the new statewide e-filing system.
 
 The hours for this position will generally fall between 8:00am - 5:15pm

Health Department - Personal Health Services - Clerk II

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide Personal Health Program services within the Community Clinical Services Division.  Duties include performing general clerical support by answering the phone, scheduling appointments, greeting and registering clients, and routine data entry.
 
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, no weekends, nights or holidays. Will be required to work 10 am – 7 pm on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month.

Prosecutor's Office - Clerk II
The successful candidate will provide general clerical assistance and support to the Kent Prosecutor's Office. Responsibilities vary and may include a variety of clerical responsibilities, including data entry, customer service, answering phones, and scheduling appointments. The ideal candidate will be prepared to provide excellent customer service to individuals from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.  

Register of Deeds - Clerk Typist II 
The successful candidate will provide general clerical assistance and support to the Kent County Clerk's office. Responsibilities vary and may include a variety of clerical responsibilities, including data entry, customer service, answering phones, and scheduling appointments. The ideal candidate will be prepared to provide excellent customer service to individuals from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. 

Sheriff's Office - Records - Clerk II
The successful candidate will perform a variety of clerical and customer service functions for the Sheriff’s Office Records Division.  Requires application of procedural and substantive knowledge of internal/external rules, regulations, requirements and protocols related to the department.  Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting citizens with report requests, referrals to other divisions, fingerprinting, running background checks, and processing pistol and CPL permits.
In addition, the employee will receive and respond to requests for information and assistance from citizens, staff, other County departments, public/private agencies.

Veterans Services - Clerk II
The Kent County Veterans Services Department provides information, referrals, and support services to honorably discharged, wartime veterans and their families. In this role, the successful candidate will provide general clerical assistance and support to the veterans and families of Kent County. Responsibilities vary and may include a variety of clerical responsibilities, including data entry, customer service, answering phones, and scheduling appointments. The ideal candidate will be prepared to provide excellent customer service to individuals from a wide variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications

Clerk II minimum qualifications:

High school graduate or GED and one year of clerical experience. Equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Requires skill in filing, maintaining office records and operating various office equipment.  Must be self-motivated, organized, detail oriented and proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse populations are essential.

Docket Clerk minimum qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent combined with post-secondary training in legal or court procedures or two years para-professional experience in a legal environment or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
 
 Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to interact positively with clients from a wide range of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds are essential.
 
 Candidates who are fluent in spoken Spanish and are confident using and learning new technology are encouraged to apply.
