Director, Lab Informatics

The role...

We are seeking a Director to join our fast-paced and innovative Information Technology team. The Director of Lab Informatics will be responsible for recommending, developing, implementing, and monitoring technology solutions focused on data generation, data capture, scientific workflow, and data maintenance for CST product development and production. This role will support business operations across a global network and will enable the automation of Research, Product Development, and Manufacturing business operations. The Director will be required to work closely with IT Operations, agile software development teams, business functions and senior management to deliver enterprise business system solutions that will enable the company to achieve short- and long-term strategic goals and objectives. In addition, the position will hold team management responsibility for IT staff engaged in software development, implementation, and support activities. The position reports to the Executive Director, Global IT.

You'll have the opportunity to...

  • Proactively partner with business units within Product Development, Operations & Production, and Commercial to identify needs and appropriate information technology solutions, documenting requirements and working with business stakeholders to build business cases where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the IT Executive Director to establish and manage IT strategy, application roadmap, and project portfolio for product information management business operations
  • Work with Product Development, Production, and IT partners to prioritize efforts to best align with function and company goals, and to align with overall IT strategy and architecture.
  • Build project plans, engage resources, and drive implementation projects to successful completion, meeting broad requirements, managing scope, and establishing/maintaining project schedules and budgets.
  • Work with a mix of internal staff, contractors, managed services providers, and vendor resources, ensuring successful delivery of technology support for the Lab Informatics application portfolio, including incident, problem, and change management processes that impact the portfolio, and meeting applicable SLAs.
  • Provide vendor management and oversight for in-scope technology vendors, conduct regular vendor reviews, and ensure applicable metrics are collected and reviewed as per vendor or internal SLAs.
  • Assist IT senior leadership with the development and management of operating plan costs and continuously assess services over time to identify savings opportunities and sourcing strategies that make effective use of internal, external, and contract resources.
  • Champion agile methods and practices, provide coaching to agile team members and mentor team leaders and scrum masters.
  • Establish priorities for the team, direct reports, and mentor team members.
  • Work with the IT teams to drive consolidation efforts for legacy and/or redundant application technologies including cost benefit analysis and establish controlling procedures for introduction of new application technologies across the organization.
  • Oversee, participate, and approve the interviewing, hiring, and training of departmental employees; conduct performance evaluations for direct reports; and provide 360 feedback as requested.
  • Support project budget estimates to feed the annual budget cycle: project plans must include all aspects of spend (CapEx, OpEx, internal & external resources).
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
  • Carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organizations policies, procedures, and state, federal, and local laws.

Who you are and what you bring to the team...

  • BA/BS in a related field
  • 10+ years of directly related and progressively responsible experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of team leadership and/or supervisory experience, preferably in an agile setting
  • Possess a solid understanding of applications needed to support the research and development information management needs of a life sciences company
  • Extensive R&D, laboratory informatics, manufacturing systems, and/or product information management
  • Must be experienced with Agile methodologies for systems development
  • Effective communication skills
  • Excellent customer service with both internal and external customers
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and multi-task to resolve critical issues
  • Manage complex projects and track against expectations
  • Effectively interface with senior management and subject matter experts
  • Experience with development of software deliverables and using defect tracking tools like Jira
  • Experience with multi-system level integration using web services, file based data feeds, and databases

Ideally, you have...

  • MA/MS in a related field
  • Experience with manufacturing, supply chain, and/or marketing environments, and associated policies and procedures
  • Experience with R&D, distribution, and manufacturing environments and associated policies and procedures in the life sciences industry
  • Experience with creating UML conceptual models, designing user interfaces, database models, and software development in PL/SQL and Java
  • Experience with development of software deliverables and using defect tracking tools like Jira
  • Experience with multi system level integration using web services, file based data feeds and databases

  • Must be able to sit/stand throughout the day
